For anyone on macOS 26.1 using Apple Music: I’ve found a fully reproducible bug where View as Albums stops working for all playlists — not just smart playlists, but standard ones too. I have submitted this as Feedback to Apple.

What happens:
  • Switch a playlist to View as Albums → album grid displays correctly.
  • Click to another playlist → then click back.
  • The album grid is now empty, except for the header image.
  • View as Songs still works normally.
What doesn’t fix it:
  • Changing views (Songs → Albums)
  • Sorting
  • Restarting Music/macOS
  • Clearing caches
  • Re-signing into Apple Music
Only temporary fixes:
  • The very first time you use View as Albums for that playlist
  • Toggling Only Downloaded Music off/on
(In my case all tracks are downloaded, so it just forces a redraw.

This happens even with brand-new playlists and very simple smart rules. Looks like a straightforward render-refresh bug in Apple Music under 26.1.

Do you mind trying this test?
- Create a new playlist- 1 rule - make it a simple one, like 'Genre is Jazz' or something. Ideally pick a rule with lots of songs, so you get multiple albums in the album view
- Select View as albums - you should see icons of all the albums with songs satisfying the rule. You should also see the 4 album icon header next to the smart playlist name.
- Click away to something else in the side bar - then click back to the newly created playlist.
- Is the Album view now blank, only showing the 4 album icon at the top but no albums?

EDIT: I have reproduced this on 2 Macs. I also have a dropbox link showing the problem with a newly created simple playlist - create it, album view correct - click away and back, album view gone. Toggle View Only Downloaded Music, album view is back - click away and back, album view is gone.

Album View disappears

If anyone else can reproduce this, it might help get this fixed in 26.2. Or certainly if anyone has found a fix, let me know!
