Apple Music Classical is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, March 28. The app is already beginning to roll out for some iPhone users in countries with earlier time zones than the U.S., including Australia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and others. The rollout will continue around the world as the calendar turns to March 28.

Apple Music Classical became available for pre-order on the App Store earlier this month. The app offers over five million classical music tracks and is free to use with a standard Apple Music subscription on iOS 15.4 and later.

Apple Music‌ Classical is based on Primephonic, a classical music streaming service that Apple acquired in 2021. The standalone app leverages Primephonic's playlists and audio content, search capabilities, metadata, and more. Apple says the app features thousands of composer biographies, descriptions of key works, and more.

Apple Music Classical is available for the iPhone only at launch, with an Android version of the app coming soon, according to Apple. The app is currently available in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Dutch.

Apple originally planned to launch a classical music app in 2022, but the app was not announced until this year. Apple shut down Primephonic in September 2021 and offered subscribers six months of access to Apple Music for free at the time.

Really excited to get my hands on this. Classical music is a nightmarish mess to find on Spotify and regular Apple Music. All the music by a particular composer moreso since classical releases are often labeled by the performer, not the composer. This is going to be wonderful for a lover of the orchestra like me.

Finally!
Great news… This is going to move me to re-subscribe to Apple Music and test it out.

I do wonder though why this is not rolling out on the Mac also? Or the iPad?

Most of my listening is off of my Mac with a decent DAC and set of speakers…
The ipad uses the iPhone version of the app. Playing around with it now. It seems pretty barebones, is all I can say at the moment.

Here are some screenshots of the app.

Does this mean the same music will be removed from the regular music app? Or is it duplicates?

They are duplicates. Seems that music I just played in the classical music app is also reflected in the Apple Music app.

Imagine this classical app as a clone of the Apple Music app, with only classical music available. I can’t comment on whether the music is being categorised in a manner which makes sense for the consumption of classical music, so I will leave this to the experts.

It made it seem like I could install it from a link in the Apple Music app. And when I got to the App Store it had a button to download. But when I tried to download it changed to a check mark and said Coming Soon.

Mine is showing up coming soon too. Maybe it’s rolling out in phases slowly. Expected: March 28, 2023 😞😭

Has anyone in the US been able to confirm if the app has become available for them? Seems like it might be geofenced to local time zones.
I don't think it's available in the U.S. as of yet. It's showing it's going to roll out on March 28, 2023.

I wonder if the App will show as available if I change the time to the U.K. or any other Asian country. They are one day ahead of us.

Great. Now if only Apple would allow SONOS and other non-Apple systems to play the tracks in hi res or even lossless. Otherwise, I'll be switching to Qobuz when it becomes available in Canada.

Why put any effort into this, just add a tab to the Apple Music app.....concentrate on making Siri better.....there is a larger subset of people that would like to see that happen as opposed to this....

So Apple bought a classical streaming service 2 years ago and are finally releasing the service as a full Apple app. Great! But in those two years they didn’t bother making it iPad compatible? Or apparently modernizing the UI elements (those icons are pretty ‘90s). smh

I’m happy about the service, as I am the intended demographic. However I play my music from a dedicated iPad in my listening room. It lives connected to a DAC, Amps and normal audiophile equipment. I think this is somewhat common for classical listeners. So we are not supposed to read the nice liner notes on iPad?

Oh well. In the end it’s about the music. As long as it streams in high bitrate lossless, and there is a good selection of music, I’ll be happy-ish.

Looks like some nice features but I really wish it was not rolling out as a separate app. Seems unnecessarily complicated and it would be nice for all genres to benefit from these features.

hahaha, you sure that is Apple and not Sonos? Last I checked, there were software tools out there for companies to use to upgrade their products, and if they chose not to, hmmmm, that is on them? Just a point, anyone can get their products to use airplay 2, and Sonos could opt to support Apple Music. Just saying, ouch the truth hurts sometimes
