I replaced my iPhone 7 with the XR yesterday and restored my new device from a back up. I just noticed that the songs in my Apple Music aren’t downloaded to my new device - they’re just available through the cloud. Is there a way I can mass download all of my music? It would be a huge pain to do this manually.

Can you check if Automatic downloads is enabled in Settings--> Music app?

That works if OP wasn't download all his library. Automatic Downloads on downloads everything you add to your library. What OP could be asking for is the ability to re-download everything you had previously downloaded (for example, 10 GB of a 100GB library).

I don't think there is a way to do that as I have had the problem as well. You just gotta go through your library and re-download everything. Option 2 is create a playlist of all your "download music" and then you can just download that but that takes planning.

Aside from not making any sense both the options seem cruel

Anyways, the combination of Icloud Music Lib (or Sync Lib in Ios 13 beta) and Automatic downloads has always worked for me.

I don’t know how this isn’t a feature. Apple wants you to upgrade devices but yet getting back your Apple Music is a pain in the butt.

I created a playlist of all my music on my phone so when I restore I just download the playlist and downloads every song. Have 870 songs and adding them one by one is a hassle.

There’s also this but I haven’t tried it yet myself. https://www.idownloadblog.com/2016/10/27/how-to-download-entire-music-library-iphone-ipad/

I ended up calling Apple because I was losing my mind. After lots of troubleshooting we tried the method in the link and it's working! I have over 6,000 songs so adding one by one just was not an option. This is something so basic that Apple should really have figured out, ugh.

Agreed! 800 was more than enough for me! Lol
