Super basic things seemingly don't work with the Apple Music app - such as adding album artwork and having that sync to my phone. The album itself got sync'd - but mysteriously the album artwork is missing. Multiple tries of ejecting my iPhone, reconnecting, and resynchronizing hasn't worked thus far. There have been other odd behavior as well. You'd think this is a crapy Windows system. Apple must be catching up.

This has been happening to me for a while. It doesn't matter if it's a digital download I bought that included artwork or a CD I ripped and added artwork manually. It doesn't show when playing anymore. I actually did a phone call with support. They had me create a new user on my Mac, and I think I authorized Music again and downloaded a previously purchased song and the artwork showed. There is no way I'm going through the pain of migrating to another userid for something that might break again so I'm still broken.

OP:

If you don't care for the Music.app (I don't), you can "go back to iTunes" if you wish.
Download the free app named "Retroactive" here:
(on the right-hand side, click "latest" to go to the download page, then click the blue button)

Retroactive will install iTunes onto newer Macs and OS's that no longer officially support it.

It works -- I use it for the iTunes free streaming internet radio tuner.

That's good to know! Sometimes I've thought it might also be nice to just find a dedicated music app. Seems like the focus of both Music and iTunes is annoying. I just want to play my mp3s and nothing else - pretty much.
