Call me geriatric but I'll be damned if I'll subscribe to streaming music services. I prefer to purchase songs and store them locally, so I pay only for the music I like and don't have to be reliant on a WiFi connection. I got a new iPhone and I keep getting various notifications offering me three months of Apple Music 🤬. As noted above, I don't want that, but when I try to access the iTunes store in macOS to try to buy music I get this:
You'll note that this modal dialog box has no button to allow one to decline the offer, thereby violating good GUI practice. It pops up every time I try to search for a song in iTunes and blocks previewing the song or purchasing it. I can otherwise interact with macOS iTunes but not search for and preview specific songs.
So, is this just an amateurish coding error, or is Apple going to shove Apple Music down our throats by crippling iTunes? If the latter, that takes a significant chunk out of the Apple ecosystem for me and I'll get my music from Amazon. In any case, suffice it to say that this experience has been infuriating. Has anybody else experienced the same?
[And, yes, I know I could take the offer and then cancel. However, I don't want to give in to Apple's subscription-based services. I am sure they are fine for some, but I don't want to pay for things I do not use, do not want, or are redundant with other services (e.g., Prime). And FFS, internet radio is a thing - if I wanted streaming I could get it for free. I don't want to forget after three months and pay even a penny. Not one. 😡]
