I have literally heard of one of these songs and know like 4 of these artist...I'm old and yes....this generations music is awful.

Shocked Taylor Swift isn't on here anywhere.

(The ones I know Bruno, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, the ones I've heard of but don't remotely know...Kendrik Lamar and Sza. And wtf is this "ROSÉ &amp'". Is that a band name?

I've heard of exactly one of these groups/bands/artists.

Honestly, I can't stand most of the bland and flavorless pablum they call music these days. It could be AI slop for all I know, because it all sounds the same, or contains a riff from 80's song. It started in the late 90's where most music coming out was the same formulaic beat, with meaningless lyrics.

I've heard the Lady GaGa and Bruno Mars song, and the one from HUNTR/X, but some of these artists I've never even heard of, let alone the songs...Mrs. Green Apple?? Wife and I still listen to a lot of new music, but generally in the electronic and edm genre, and I like a lot of new Folk.

Ah well; such is life! No hate from me.

Rose is a Korean Australian member of Black Pink who went solo.

Meanwhile, we all have a tendency to exaggerate the merit of our "own" generation's art and music and denigrate that which comes after. When Igor Stravinsky debuted a new work in 1913 Paris, the audience rioted, supposedly upset by the jarring dissonance and jerky choreography.

My wife and I definitely contributed to the Billie Eilish, GaGa/Bruno Mars and HUNTR/X being on the list.

Tho man, I've been listening to Anthony Vincent's Kpop Demon Hunters covers, BBNO$ and Electric Callboy on loop while I work on my webcomic.

Edit: it's so sad seeing the curmudgeons on this post. I guess I'm spoiled, my GenX mom still jams to new music and loves when my wife and I share new stuff with her. I can't imagine being stuck on the music from my childhood (I mean seriously, 80's-90's music is the greatest example of survivorship bias ever).

I've never heard any of them. Not planning on it either.

Bruno Mars got a nice year of collabs, let the royalties flow in
It's more like the other way around. Rosé and Bruno Mars song, Apt., really turned to a household name since late last year, was lucky to see their live performance in LA. Topping the chart is pretty obvious. Rosé also has a song in the F1 film soundtrack.

Is this the iMusic equivalent of Spotify Wrapped?

What is iMusic? Never heard of it.

Today’s music is trash and it’s not because I’m old. It’s because it’s now been broken down to a formula. I worked for years as a studio engineer and you can even hear it in the production. They way they use certain effects (like compression) to specifically change what listeners think and make them want to play it over & over.

Very few artists make good music their way. They all bow to the studios requirements.

Music has gotten worse for a long time. It has nothing to do with my own generation. While I think it was good (I'm 35), I also appreciated my parents and my grandparents' generation of music as equally good but different. Todays music is mostly garbage....

Change can be jarring and rebuked at first, but lyrics aren't. Content matters. And yes, there was repulsive stuff at all generations, but now it's the norm.

I know this is already old, but just think about the **** people are listening too mainstream today or in the past 10 years...I mean all I have to say is W.A.P.

A Canadian artist most have never heard of (Zappacosta) had a mild hit titled “It’s All Been Done Before” about writing a song that’s new.

I have a very good memory for sounds/music and I ALWAYS hear some riff, beat or similar in new music I’ve heard before. People think they can copy something from years ago that wasn’t very big back then that nobody will notice. There really is very little that’s actually new.

People used to go to concerts to hear music. Now they go to see a spectacle. Take away the dancers, special effects and theatre and the music rarely stands on its own.

Now excuse me while I wait to go see Rush one final time next year. 😉

Survivorship bias. There was plenty of crap in the olden' days too, and now no one listens to it or remembers it. Same will happen with today's music

You say it's now the norm, but I don't think you can credibly call anything mentioned in this MR post "repulsive", so I don't really know what your point is, beyond not liking WAP. As you say, there's questionable content from every period of music, so what's new under the sun? Jailbait by Ted Nugent was pretty damned gross (far worse than WAP), but that says literally nothing about Paul Simon or Christopher Cross.
