I'm trying out both Apple Music and Spotify to determine if their artist radio stations have improved and so far it seems that Apple Music is superior in matching the style of the artist in question.
One quick example, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross custom radio station, Apple Music is finding composers that are unique and have that same sort of Reznor offbeat vibe, while Spotify is presenting scores that don't match the style at all, Spotify will present a movie score that is so basic and play three or four songs within that same score, as you hit skip, you frequently see Spotify cycle back to that same score.
I tried it with Hans Zimmer and got a similar result, Apple Music is finding other composers that match Zimmer's bombast while Spotify is presenting some animated movie score that you would never associate with the Hans Zimmer sound.
If this continues to play out, I will lean toward Apple Music in the future, however they are missing one key feature, the ability to shuffle between custom radio stations. SiriusXM has a feature on their Onyx players, TuneMix, it randomly chooses a song from your preset stations, up to 18 of them, those stations will have thirty minutes of songs stored on them, I can't understand why Apple or Spotify does not offer this same feature.
If I could create twenty custom artist radio stations and have Apple Music shuffle songs between them, it would be akin to building my own unique radio station, if you are reading this Apple, please develop this, you will have a subscriber for life. I am obviously not the demo nor do I represent what most people want from streaming, but it is really the only feature I am looking for, I prefer my own music on a server or Ipod and the random ability that SiriusXM presents with Tune Mix, I wish Apple Music or Spotify would develop this feature.
