I guess the title pretty much says it all.

if there aren't any other windows open control-N doesn't work to bring up a new window. but if there is another window open, sometimes it'll work.
is this a bug or am i doing something wrong?

on a core duo macbook, BTW.
thanks.

Sounds like an about:config issue to me. Go in there and make sure no other settings are interfering with the default new window behavior. Also check your keyboard shortcut mappings in System Preferences, just to make sure nothing's messed up there.

Are you using the Control or the Command (AKA propeller or Apple) key? Command + N opens a new window for me every time. Control + N does nothing.

Apple-N in Firefox and in Entourage

I can't get Apple-N to work in either Firefox or Entourage. I thought it was fine after installing Leopard, but noticed yesterday that this is a problem. Not sure if it was after the install or not.
