I wanted to share a frustrating experience I’ve had with the App Store Review process. My new app, was supposed to launch on March 24, and it’s completely ready. But thanks to some hurdles with App Store Review, I’ve had to make the difficult decision to delay the release and cancel all pre-orders.

Now the reason I had to cancel pre-orders was because my app was not on-par with my quality standards when I originally went through App Store Review, and I got to say, it was rough then, its rough now. I knew my app would be ready by March 24, so I set the pre-order to date to March 24.

Now when I try setting the pre-order date to a later date, I get an unspecified error:

This caused me to delist the entire app as the server side version is not compatible at all with the pre-order lister. I also tried contacting Apple Developer Support and they were closed today... I called normal Apple Support and said it was a developer emergency, but they redirected me to calling Apple Developer Support on a day it is opened. This is an emergency that can literally impact me for how bad the app performs with the modern server improvements and the client sided UI was not fully ready yet.

While I had minor quirks in the past, App Store Review used to be very smooth and I could release my app within a matter of hours, not days. I always submitted my apps 3 days apart as the general rule of thumb, but this did not help at all. This has caused me to believe that App Store Review had a bunch of people get laid off. Not only that, App Store Review felt like a huge mess before that and now it is even worse to the point where I have to delay things.

My app was 100% ready on Friday, March 21, and I sent it to App Store Review on that same day. No response until this morning when they said my app crashes when it doesn't at all, and the diagnostic files they sent were for a **completely different app**.

I’d love to hear if anyone else has dealt with similar issues. It’s frustrating to feel like all the hard work of indie developers can be held up like this. Best of all, this app has the most people who wanted the app out of any of my other apps before.

Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any support or advice!

Going to work on my app, will probably submit something to store connect and will tell you.
