Hard to argue the points in this article...

what points exactly?

this is a non-article.

writer points out cameras that work perfectly fine. says there arent any new ones. ok so what? HKSV is still 1080p anyway. lets ask for something actually useful like longer-than-a-week recording and 4k

what actually is missing is more PoE HKSV cams. Now THATS an almost article.

The real article? bring -any- camera or video stream into hksv with scrypted and get all the flexibility you want.

I am annoyed with the lack of HKSV cameras, especially outdoor ones. I have two Eve Outdoor Cameras, and they are fine, but for being a floodlight camera, the light is really lacking as a light. That said, it probably has the best light on any HKSV camera.

Aqara G5 outdoor cam should be out by the end of the year. Looking forward to it.
Aqara -really- needs to free the basic camera control settings while in Homekit mode. Last i checked on my g2h you couldn't even flip the image 180 without being forced to create an account. Madness. Camera great otherwise.

Apple could fix this on their side too.

Completely agree but I think this is more of an Apple issue. They haven’t updated their camera interface since they released HKSV. Just look at the difference between what you get in the Home app vs something like the Eve app where you can create an automation based on a doorbell press. I know people been asking for pan and tilt control in the Home app for a while but I think this is on Apple and the Home app.

Agree. They could easily implement simple features to address the obvious shortcomings of the current interface and vague usability. Not sure why the dev cycles are lagging so much. Build it and they will come. Time for Apple to hand out some free dogfood, we need a Maps rewrite moment.

The Home app can be so good. After all these years, seeing features that the third party HomeKit apps put out with more granular control over accessories and such and Apple standing pat. It’s a shame they don’t do more with it. Thankful for at least Shortcuts with more robust automations and the “If” statement getting an improvement with iOS 18. I’ve always said the Home app engineers are the stepping stone to better things at Apple before moving up to iOS, MacOS or iPadOS. Like working the fryer at McD’s before moving up to cashier lol. Plus I’m sure a lot of resources were allocated for Apple Intelligence.
