Apple News+ Audio is expanding to the UK, Canada, and Australia as of today. Apple debuted Apple News+ Audio way back in 2020, and it has been limited to U.S. Apple News subscribers until now.

Apple News+ Audio is primarily designed for Apple News+ subscribers, and it provides professionally narrated versions of the best stories from Apple News. Audio stories can be listened to in the Apple News+ app or in the Podcasts app, with Apple highlighting popular stories from subscription publications like The New Yorker, Bloomberg, The Atlantic, Rolling Stone, and more.

Those who do not subscribe to Apple News+ can hear previews of stories, and there's also a free News Today audio option that's available to all Apple News users.

Apple News+ has a robust selection of audio stories, with users able to see top options across categories like News and Politics, Business, Sports, Arts and Entertainment, and True Crime.

In Australia, Canada, and the UK, Apple News+ Audio includes audio stories from local publications as well as stories from the U.S.

Apple News+ is priced at $12.99 USD per month, and it provides access to subscription publications like The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and The Atlantic, along with dozens of magazines and regional newspapers. Apple News+ is also included in the Apple One Premier plan priced at $37.95 USD per month.

(Thanks, Ben!)

I wonder how many people actually pay for Apple News+ ?

I'm one, and I really like the service. It's fairly clear that paying gives access to a large catalogue of actual journalism instead of the clickbait news headlines that you get on free tiers/services.

And the magazine content is wonderfully done. I love the ability to download issues, and the layout and typography is lovely – particularly on Apple's high quality displays (it's so nice to read a magazine issue on my iPad Pro, it really does deliver an even more excellent version of what iPad did way back when it was introduced by Steve in the armchair, with that 'lean back' experience).

Seems to be 4 articles.
There's actually more, but there seems to be no way of browsing articles that have the audio feed. You have to just discover them when browsing through articles.

Correction to the article:
There are no "News Today" feeds for Australian users. We don't get any of the Channels as shown below from the US/UK variants.

There are also no local publications that support Audio in Australia.
Nor can we browse articles based on if they have audio available.

Our audio page is only filled with a random selection of articles.

Another sub quality service from Apple.

Good to know about the expansion. But still waiting for the normal News+ service to expand and be available in my region.

UK Apple One subscriber here. Trying out one of the audio stories at the moment https://apple.news/nowPlaying/AvZh6Pz41RjOmFrbAcWwHCg

Impressed with the reading so far & the seamless integration into the News app/News+service. I can see some of these audio readings being done whilst at my desk. I’m inferring that the audible intakes of breath of the narrators means real human beings doing the reading and not a generative AI narrator.

Will see how this goes.

In Canada and noticed this yesterday and that it adds stuff in the Podcasts app too.

Does the News app allow downloading of the audio stories, or is it pure streaming? Asking because I also noticed it puts the News app in CarPlay.

There doesn’t look to be a download option in the audio/narrated stories in the News app itself. The same audio articles in the Pidcast app do allow downloading for offline listening there, as per any other podcast episodes.
