Apple News has rolled out local news coverage in Canada, according to Apple blogger and YouTuber Rene Ritchie. The first local news content will be available in Toronto and Montreal and will feature coverage from CTV News, Toronto Star, La Presse, Narcity, and other news outlets.

The move follows similar local news coverage expansions last October in the US, covering Charlotte, Miami, and Washington D.C. Apple News local coverage in the US can also be found in San Francisco, the Bay Area, New York, Houston, Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, and San Antonio.

Last month MacRumors found code in the first beta of iOS 15.4 that suggests Apple is planning to expand the sports content available in its Apple News app. To offer a more tailored news experience, users will be able to select their preferred sports leagues and their favorite teams, with Apple then providing the appropriate news.

This isn't new news,..Apple has already advertised this. Not sure why Rene Ritchie thinks he is revealing anything new ?‍♂️
Click bait, money flowing in his pockets while people waste time listening..
Until people keep consuming videos on YouTube and wasting their time, this thing will continue and get only worse.
Not a personal attack to him, just the whole YouTuber thing is irritating. You want to listen to something that interests you and you have to hear about “smashing” like buttons, subscribe, turn on the notification so we can drive you even more addicted to it, then listen to our sponsor of today, then “oh by the way join this other platform and pay me a subscription so I can give you more content”, bla bla bla….enough is enough

Reading and watching news is like eating highly refined junk food. It will give you mental diabetes.

Read old book. They will give you better understanding of the human condition.

If you don’t like books, try a history podcast like Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History.

It's because he's Rene Ritchie, the Leo Laporte of Canada. ?
No, he's certainly no Leo Laporte, Lol. If it weren't for Apple, I don't think Rene would have any work. Seriously, he's click bait videos are just a rehash of news already circulating.

Is Apple News the worse Apple product / service? I think it might be
How so? How is it the worst product / service? I get access to magazines like Consumer Reports, Travel and Leisure, Men's Health and many other magazines that I would have to pay for, all for one price. I can read MacRumors in Apple news and other sites versus having to open a browser. I get one stop access and push notifications for news like Fox, CNN, ABC on my Mac, Phone, Watch and Ipad. Etc. etc. etc. How is Apple News the worst product? Have you even used it?

My wife hasn't figured out how to get Apple News to stop pushing alerts to her watch.

I thought about showing her, but it's funny to watch her grumble when it does it.

I'd like to use Apple News more if it brought back RSS feeds from any site, rather than just the curated ones they offer.

Conglomeration and consolidation of news sources is not good. Too easy for censorship to take hold.

Prefer to support an independent news company that presents facts. Apple News, on my end, has been an awful lot of opinion. I understand this is a reflection of what's in the media, but it's not what I look for. Just give me information, sources, and let me draw my own conclusions.

I can give you a couple of reason why it’s pretty bad:

1. News is still only available in 4 countries almost 7 years after its launch, and most of that time only in english (support for french was added just recently when it launched in Canada)

2. All content in News is curated.

3. Adding RSS feeds from any news site as News channels is no longer supported. It used to be back in 2015 when News first launched, but soon afterwards Apple restricted it to only RSS feeds from the sites of the same news outlets already available to be added as channels from within the app.

no news is worth paying for, not the least of which is slanted content censored by our big tech/ccp overlords. Hard pass

Man, this message board really is filled the the brim with miserable people.
Well that's what happens when you attach someone to a news story,..who has nothing to do with,..ahem, the news story. If like a 12 year old, I create a click bait video, will Macrumors publish me?

The "look at me" generation, the gift that stopped giving a long time ago!

I don't disagree with you about Ritchie. But I guess you have a more favorable opinion of Laporte than I do. Which is fine. I just feel they both generate lots and lots of lame, rehashed content.

If you Google “Fanboy” you will get a picture of Rene Riche. He is an Apple apologist to the fing MAX.

When he is on Macbreak weekly I can’t listen to it.
