Apple is replacing my current notebook with a 15" 200gb/2.4ghz/2gb macbook pro which I am very excited about.

However, I would rather have an iMac for now. From anyones experience, when my new mbp arrives would I be able to take the mbp to an apple store in exchange for store credit and purchase an iMac? I would also have about $800 left on the gift card(store credit)for the purchase of another notebook at a later time. Is this plausible or against any of apples policies?

Thanks

why are they replacing it in the first place? (just wondering)

Do you know if the MBP will be refurbished or brand new? The reason I ask is because if it's new, they might allow you to do that in store. But if it's refurbished I don't think they would. However, it's definitely worth a shot. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

it's brand new. I verified that with the apple rep, he said the only way they would send a refurb mac is if the original was bought as a refurb.

Sounds to me like it wouldn't be too much to ask since it will be packaged in a brand new box. But then again I've never worked in an Apple store so I am not sure of their policy on that. I'd definitely try it, especially if it's what you want to do.

it would be sweet if I could do that. If not, I'm more than content with apples generosity and customer satisfaction.

Yes as long as you don't open it, you can take your receipt back and say you want a iMac instead.
