Forgive me if there is a better subform for this. As soon as I saw the specs on the new iPhone chip (par with base 13" mbp correct?) I wondered if they went through all that trouble so that soon you could dock your iPhone in a "MacBook" shell, ditto for desktop.

It seems to me like Apple could be the first to do this right because iOS and OS X are written from the same code base, and because surely other tech companies will want to head in that direction. But Apple has a huge up in this respect. Just that they are warming to EGPU's shows maybe a more modular future and maybe part of a bolder plan.

Not sure I could afford to e part of this new world though lol I just wanted to see if anybody else saw this as pretty hard evidence they are leaning in this direction. It would make sense with the AMOLED screens they don't want to buy from Samsung too because they hype would be on the laptop/desk switch where AMOLED hasn't been made big enough yet. And eventually hopefully Apple can get them easily cause they really are good.

Hmm... Warming to EGPUs. Could easily see a potential setup (if I didn't already have one) As a dock with phone and EGPU. Or laptop shell.

Because Apple is "smart" (damn them) they tend to move in increments and not on the tech path less traveled unless of course they are creating a product category like iphone /ipad. The code is basically the same on both so wouldn't it be realistic to expect a "unified" environment in this setup, not quite OS X and not quiet iOS but something in between that could run plenty of OS X apps as well as iOS. Honestly that would sell like hotcakes right? (I know android kind of has stuff like this. But because Apple has a closed system and because their OS is basically the same, I'm not talking about watching your phone on a projector, but a really slick "unified" OS that would basically cater to both. Apple already has their cloud services pretty cemented... honestly with fragmentation Apple could do this so much faster/ better than the rest. (but god damn the s8 is really, really sweet for now.))

I think the chip is pretty awesome hardware. And this seems to be their thing... Tim Cook might want to show they can innovate again. Ives could make a really, really good looking laptop shell if all it needs to do is dock the phone. Maybe not iPhone X, possibly next, and probably two versions down. Are any macrumors posters the betting variety? lol.
