Has anybody recently run into this notification before? I'm surprised that MacRumors hasn't created an article reporting on this yet.

Windows Central wrote an article about it.

So this is on every open? Not just the first? Very slimey if intentional. This was always an upside to Apple is a lot less damned nagging but it's gotten pretty bad with them as well. This is also part of why I don't like Firefox so much anymore.

The real question to ask is, why would anybody use MS Edge on a mac?
Edge is actually a fine browser for Mac. It's Chromium so compatible with a lot of extensions and websites work pretty well overall, but a lot lighter on system resources than Google Chrome and arguably better privacy overall. Also, much better control over updates with Edge.

It is?!

It shouldn't be...

Most browsers deviated from Google Chrome seemingly don't hog your memory (along with Mozilla Firefox and Safari). :)
Hmm, it would be super interesting to see some benchmarks on that. I'm a tad skeptical, but if the numbers did line up, it would raise a heck of a lot of questions about what Google is doing in the background!

And the hyper-real question is, why would anyone use either MS Edge or Safari on a mac?

Safari has fewer built-in features, and far fewer extensions, than almost any other browser. As for Edge, it's not worth thinking about. Sometimes I really forget that it exists.

What browser do you use?

Because Edge has significantly better cookie and site data controls than all of the major browsers (Safari, Chrome and Firefox). It also offers integration across multiple platform and OSs that you'll never get with Safari and you don't have the minefield of what Google is doing in their mega-resource pig, Chrome. And it runs quite speedily.

It has its quirks like all browsers do but overall I quite like it and it's current my primary browser on both macOS and Android.

Mostly firefox, sometimes the brave browser, just to see how it's coming along.

However I still have a sentimental place for firefox, from back when they were the scrappy little upcomer. I'm not a huge fan of the direction they've gone lately, but I can still customize it to my liking. And as tekguy mentioned, it has good features/support for everything that is relevant to me.

As things stand now, it would be hard for me to give up firefox altogether, but who knows.

Just being honest though, I open safari and truly can't believe any moderately technical person would consider using it as their main browser.

Ouch! I use Safari as my main browser. Lol. That said, when I’m using Windows all day for work I’ll use Edge and Brave. AdGuard, 1Password, about all I need for personal browsing. Safari seems much more friendly to me for my personal usage - and the automatic insertion of 2FA texts makes it my favorite.

Nah, it's not a problem if you use it and like it. But I, personally, can't find a reason for it.

Web browsers are unusable, literally, without UBlock Origin. It's the first thing I check for when using a browser. It doesn't even exist in the Safari sphere, and any extension that might even come close probably requires a subscription via the app store. :cringe:

You don't use Google Chrome? ;)

I have a soft spot for Opera.

Just curious, how is your experience on Edge compared to Brave? Which one is more usable and less resources in actual day to day?

Both were pretty similar. I like Edge more because I have an Office 365 subscription and it syncs everything in the browser to my Outlook account. Also it plays nicer with 1Password. Brave is not bad. I have 3 Office 365 Business subscriptions for work and I use it as another browser instance for XYZ company. I find syncing passwords/bookmarks easier on Edge.

On my Mac, I only use safari. if I have to use my windows computer at all, I use Firefox. I like safari, safari is fast and seems to just work.
