So I wake up and see this notification on my iPhone's Lock Screen:

This isn't tied to any app (I don't even have Fandango) and tapping it opens to a regular ad in Apple Wallet. As far as I can tell, Apple is now just sending me ads to my screen now as push notifications, something I hate with an absolute passion and disable across the board in every app that tries this. This is just so not cool. I don't see a clear way to stop this, short of completely disabling notifications in Apple Wallet, something I'd rather avoid. Anyone else seen anything like this and know of a solution?

That's definitely not cool. Out of curiousity I checked my Wallet app and there is an ad in there for the F1/Fandango movie but no notification for me. If you find a feedback link for this "feature", please post it so I cand send my own nasty-gram to Apple.

SAME.

It's a real shame to have to disable notifications from an otherwise useful app because they choose to abuse it by using it as an advertising channel. At the moment, I don't see any way to opt out of this or disable this type of notification without completely disabling notifications for Apple Wallet altogether. Ugh.

Unfortunately, I think this is a sign of things to come from crApple. It’s something they mooted a while ago and I assume that you guys have this are in the US? Please do get this reported as a complaint to Apple. Without pushback, this will only get worse.

Apple is showing me an advertisement for Fandango (?) on my lock screen. Disturbing. This type of behavior would be expected from Google.

Came in as a Wallet notification which I don’t want to disable, so I can’t avoid it.

I disabled Rewards and it still showed me an ad for Fandango at the top of the screen inside the Wallet app itself. Disgusting.

Another commenter says it's a "Rewards" option under system settings, but I don't know if this is accurate.

This part is definitely inaccurate. The "Rewards" toggle is specific to "Card Benefits" related to payment options that are in Wallet. I had that off already.

It sounds like a solution is coming in iOS 26, but this is still infuriating. It's almost like Apple is taking advantage of a window of opportunity to cheese everyone off before putting it out.

I got it on top of what I was in the middle of doing. I had a visceral reaction. I own Apple products to avoid ads and predatory data practices— that’s part of their brand. This is unacceptable.

I received this as well, definitely infuriating.

And funnily enough, this is in direct violation of Apple's own notification guidelines:
Don’t use notifications to send marketing or promotional content unless people explicitly agree to receive such information. …
Get people’s permission if you want to send them promotional or marketing notifications. Before you send these notifications to people, you must receive their explicit permission to do so. Create an alert, modal view, or other interface that describes the types of information you want to send and gives people a clear way to opt in or out.

I doubt it does anything but I submitted some feedback via https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone/

I didn't get this. I had the following done already. Under Privacy and Security, Apple Advertising, Turn off Personalized Ads?

Edit: Nevermind, it says it won't reduce the number of ads, they just won't be personalized.

Do you have Personalized Ads turned off under Privacy & Security --> Apple Advertising?

I already had this setting off but got the ad.

This option was enabled for me but yeah, the description under the setting makes it sound unrelated.

Yikes. I didn't get this (probably because I'm not in the US), but I can certainly appreciate the frustration. We don't pay premium prices to get ads rammed down our throats.

Exactly. I think there is going to be massive pushback crApple double down on this. If I knew for a fact that android did not do this, I would move over to them in a flash if this is the way Apple are going. Let’s hope this is a one off. And in fairness to them, there is an option to turn it off, certainly this particular one, in iOS 26.

If this made you as angry as it did for me, make sure you call Apple Support at 1-800-275-2273 and let them know how you feel about them sending you notification spam in violation of their terms of service. Make sure to remind them that you'd love to join a class action lawsuit.
