Apple Oakridge Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, is set to close for up to four years as the mall undergoes major redevelopment, according to Retail Insider and 9to5Mac.

The current Apple Store will be replaced entirely and moved to an all-new redesigned space. The new retail location will be a flagship store with more than 10,000 square feet of space.

The Oakridge Centre is in the early stages of a major redevelopment effort that will require most tenants to vacate over the coming months. The area is being entirely redesigned and is adding apartments for more than 6,000 residents, a large outdoor community space, nearly one million square feet of new retail space, and a food hall.

Although the Oakridge Centre has become an active construction zone, the Apple Store currently remains open for shopping, pickup of online orders, and Genius support. British Columbia has five other Apple Stores for customers to choose from. The closest location to the Oakridge Centre is Apple Pacific Centre, which has also been publicly approved for refurbishment and transition to flagship status.

Apple appears to be significantly expanding its presence in British Columbia. In addition to the two replacement flagship stores, last year it was reported that Apple intends to open a major new office facility in Vancouver.

Normally, I would think they would selling the same Macs 4 years later when they open as when they closed. Macs that don't get updated very much like the Mac mini, iMac Pro, Mac Pro. But with the new transition, they may have everything updated by then.

4 years! That's a long timeline for a project wow.

Was about to say this, I know these projects are done “the Apple Way”, some include restoration of historic buildings, etc. But 4 years is the time a new landmark 200-300 mts skyscraper goes up on any modern city nowdays... as someone mentioned, as freaking long as some Mac Mini/Mac Pro update cycles... its just a (glorified) shop after all...

Ppl, please read the article. It won't take four years to renovate the Apple Store itself, the whole mall area is being redone:

I'm from the area and can confirm the mall is going under a MAJOR redevelopment. The location of this Apple Store is actually quite busy with the population in the area.

Shame this store and the Pacific Centre one will be under development at the same time. The one at the Pacific Centre, overlooking the art gallery, looks fantastic in the plans. Need one on the North Shore and Sunshine Coast next.

This is a real long time!
Going downtown is a pain in the neck.
Edited: Oh no, Pacific Centre under redevelopment as well?!
There is still the one at Richmond center

Who builds malls any more? I thought they are dying and turning into ghost towns...Amazon killed them

I wonder what will happen to the staff? Hopefully they find other positions.

I think they’re being sent to other stores, amd some are going to be working from home while a lot of stores remain closed.
