Apple is running a Summer Deal of the Day promotion in its Apple TV app, offering discounts on movie bundles through the Apple TV Store.

Today is the first day of the promotion, and Apple is selling The Hangover trilogy for $9.99. The movies are normally priced between $12.99 and $14.99 each.

The initial Deal of the Day is number 1 of 14, so Apple will presumably be offering a different discounted bundle every day for the next two weeks. The Summer Deal of the Day packages can be purchased from the Store section of the Apple TV app on any platform where the app is available.

Apple regularly offers discounted movie purchases and bundled deals that are more affordable than buying movies individually, but specific themed promotions are atypical.

I remember when the iTunes Store used to have the Free Song of the Week. If only Apple did something like that for a movie stream: watch it for free one night only.
Yeah free song of the week was blah. Free movie of the week would be nice. Doesn't have to be a blockbuster hit. But something that has a good rating on rotten tomatoes or something.

They used to have a free app of the week as well in collaboration with Starbucks. I picked up a few paid apps that way that I still use.

Great deals but it does keep devaluing digital ownership the same way physical got destroyed.

I recently saw Oppenheimer listed on iTunes for £2.99.

I could t believe it
Store deals sometimes coincide with theatrical releases to generate awareness. For instance The Naked Gun trilogy for $10 coinciding with the new Liam Neeson reboot this weekend.

Idk they have deals everyday anyway?

I’d love to see the tv app actually becoming a bit more like a streaming service in its UI. Usually I buy classic movies when they go on sale for 3.99 but it’s getting a bit messy on my movie archive.

"devaluing digital ownership"? Since they're not transferrable, who cares? I'd rather they cost me $1 than $20 because to anyone else, my digital purchases are basically worthless since I can't resell them. Or maybe I just don't understand what you're saying.

What I meant is more about the sustainability of digital purchases. When prices drop so low that people stop valuing them, or just wait for everything to hit bargain bin pricing and it becomes financially unworkable for creators. That can lead to fewer risks taken, lower production quality, or the collapse of the ownership model entirely.

We already saw this happen with physical media: over-discounting, race to the bottom, then near extinction. Now we’re doing the same with digital which only pushes everyone toward streaming, where we own nothing and content can disappear at any time.

I've already noticed some shows that aren't available to buy on digital so I can only watch on streaming platforms which is a pain.
