I do agree that is a bit shady..

I thought if you had a phone reserved they will have one set aside for you. After the day is over they will return your phone back to the general population.

You could walk into an Apple store when the original iPhone came out and grab one after everyone in line got theres. Dont worry, they'll have plenty!

then get there at 7 and stop whining! You think the nutcases that HAVE to have the phone on release day would be ecstatic they can get it an hour earlier! Apple fankids are never satisfied!

See, that's what I thought as well. What's the point of reserving it if they don't actually RESERVE it? I got mine from AT&T so it's a non-issue for me. But if they don't actually reserve it after your paid for them to, I think that's messed up.

did you all ever see the episode of seinfeld - he goes to reserve a car... he gets there and they tell him they dont have it - he says oh so you can take TAKE the reservation you just dont know how to HOLD it...

now maybe apple will have two lines or something - and take us first, before letting the "general masses" in...lol

either way i'm getting there at 6am

My Apple store has two lines, for reserved phones, and for general population. The reserved line people get let in as they come. Kind of like the Fast Pass at Disney World. At least that's how it was with the 3G last year.

i never been to disney - maybe thats why i am messed up in the head lol.. my mommy never took to disney

I think the only place people have to worry about being short iPhones are AT&T stores. Which sucks for me, because thats where I'm getting mine, and I didnt pre-order. I just decided to suck it up and pay $400, at first I wasnt going to get it.

When I do the "pre-authorization" through Apple's website, is this the reserving you guys are talking about?

Or did you already buy the iPhone 3G S and are having it shipped there? I seem to be a little confused...

the first one...

According to the guy I talked to at the Apple store, and according to lots of other people in other threads here, Apple is supposedly setting aside phones for all the people who reserved them, and will hold them all day Friday, until the reserver shows up. After Friday though, they're fair game to anyone that walks in the door.

that would be fair...
