Shazam, the music recognition app that Apple purchased in 2018, has surpassed 200 million monthly active users worldwide. Shazam is available as a standalone app and as a built-in feature on the iPhone and iPad, accessible through Siri and through a new Music Recognition toggle added to the Control Center in iOS 14.

Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of Apple Music, Beats, and International Content, commented on the milestone and said that Apple and Shazam offer a "seamless experience" for music fans.
"Apple Music and Shazam offer a seamless experience to music fans around the world, from Shazam's ubiquitous discovery platform to Apple Music's unparalleled content, global live radio stations and human curation. Looking back at our long history together, we can only see how close our missions have been: bringing the best home for music lovers and creators everywhere."
To celebrate, Shazam has shared a list of the 100 most Shazamed tracks ever across the globe, with the list available on Apple Music. The number one song on the list is Tones and I's pop single "Dance Monkey" with more than 36.6 million Shazams since its May 2019 release. Tones and I said that Shazam has had a major impact in terms of reaching new listeners.
"Shazam has been a huge platform for me in terms of reaching people. I didn't have a following when I released 'Dance monkey,' but it gave me the opportunity to reach more people and elevate my fan-base, which has all let to creating a career for myself. Shazam is definitely an app designed to help more unknown artists, and everyone knows Tones loves an up-and-comer!"
The second most Shazamed song was Lilly Wood & The Prick & Robin Schulz's "Prayer in C," while the number three most Shazamed song was Passenger's "Let Her Go."

Along with the top song list, those interested in finding more new music can do so through the Shazam Discovery Top 50, which offers up new songs from breaking artists around the world. Shazam also offers global, country, and city-specific top charts both in the app and on the Shazam website.

Shazam can be downloaded from the App Store for free, and it can be accessed through the Control Center on iPhone and iPad, through Siri commands, or on the Mac. Shazam is also available on Android devices and select features can be accessed on the web.

I’ve been using Shazam for nearly a decade now, I don’t even remember who their competitors are.

It kind of blows my mind that there are that many people who use this regularly. My music listening involves either my own music or streaming or radio in which I know the songs in all cases.

Shazam isn’t a built in feature on the i(Pad)OS as far as I understand it, because you need to download and install the App first.

Was hoping it would be baked in directly. It’s a great tool however.

I am kind of surprised at the amount of users, but I use it quite a bit during movies, tv, some commercials and out in public places(not so much now though) so maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised by this.
The integration into the control center is maybe my favorite new feature to iOS that I wasn’t expecting, since I can then tap to play the results in Apple Music, it’s so much easier overall. And can be done silently now that I don’t have to ask Siri lol.

My only problem is trying to remember the damn name every time I need it 🤣🎶
Don't know what device you're using it on but when I use it on the iPhone all I do is activate Siri and ask, "What is this song?" I never use the Shazam name. I don't use it much but when I have it is batting 100% so far, pretty impressive IMO.

but that does not give me a history. Whenever I would need it, it would be for "later" so I can find it when I am back home on my computer. Doesn't help me if Siri just tells me the name. I would forget it within minutes lol
Look in the iTunes Store app. In the upper right corner, tap the menu icon. You'll see three options: Wish List, Siri, and Previews. Tap Siri, and you'll see a list of every song you've asked Siri to identify

I love Shazam, even though I probably se it less than 10 times a year, it's a must have app. I remember using it before it was even an app, in the UK dialing 2580 on normal feature phone, damn it was expensive back then!

I just use it for the Karaoke function while listening to the radio in the car.

Right! You can use Siri to get the song but you have to click on the banner to add it to Shazam for later and allow it to sync with icloud. Hopefully that will all be baked in together in the future. Right now the app offers many features that the Siri/control panel options don't have.

That is really great! Thank you. That only works with Siri commands and not control panel of course. Also sends you to the iTunes store instead of Apple Music when you click on the songs but having that record of Siri shazams is sweet.

It’s very good till it isn’t. Last night there was a movie theme that didn’t recognize. I still have SoundHound that got it right away. The combination of the two is great .

but how does Apple make money out of it?!

I wonder why its competitor SoundHound did not find as much success

Great app when listing to the radio while driving . I know, I know: commercials! Not a problem...I'm brutal at changing stations and like almost all types of music. An added plus is the app organizes the songs in its own list in your music library.
