Other phones have had utilities that set up security in a similar manner.

I know of several addons which secretly watch for incoming texts with your coded commands. You can remotely lock it, wipe it, or get its GPS location.

Here's one example for Android. I'll try to find the WinMo and Symbian versions later. Oh yeah, and there are several versions for Blackberries.

Remote wiping a phone is nice but getting the phone back is much better. Its crazy just how many stories there are about stolen phones and it would be awesome if there was a better way to get them back.

I am surprised that more of the responsibility isn't placed on the carriers when they see a phone was previously registered to another paying customer.

The Android one you linked to looks pretty awesome and for $30 if I had a Android phone I would buy it.
