It seems that inclusion of an NFC chip in the new iPad for Apple Pay doesn't make as much sense as it does for the iPhone (who wants to pay for items with their iPad?), but if there was an NFC chip in the iPad, could it be used as a NFC terminal? Meaning, if NFC were included, could a vendor use their iPad as a point-of-sale device to accept Apple Pay from an iPhone/Apple Watch?
If the new iPads include Touch ID (which seems likely at this point), addition of an NFC chip would not add much cost to the device so Apple may just include it to fully enable their new payment system. Just trying to understand what the potential uses may be. Certainly, Apple is marketing Apple Pay even for online purchases, but that may be possible with or without an NFC chip.
