Apple today announced that it will again donate $5 for every purchase made using Apple Pay on Apple.com, through the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria from November 29 through December 8. Apple said its donation this year will be capped at $3 million.

The Global Fund aims to combat diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria throughout the developing world. Apple says its donation to the organization will continue to "help fund critical health programs that save lives."

Apple runs this donation campaign ahead of World AIDS Day on December 1 each year.

Apple has supported The Global Fund for 18 years through its partnership with the (RED) brand, co-founded by U2 singer Bono. Apple offers some products in a (PRODUCT)RED color, and a portion of the proceeds from every one of these products sold by Apple goes to The Global Fund. Apple said it has raised more than $250 million to date.

A great cause but Apple has enough money that they should match the donations rather than just passing them along

Did you read the article? Apple isn't passing along donations, they are making them.

Then just donate the money… don’t try to capitalize off charity.

Why is generosity never good enough?

How much have you donated? As some who raises money for charities, it’s people who lecture others never donate. Be thankful for every $$$ donated.

Meh..no, expecting more giving back is good. Especially as our government has decided corporations will be the ones who help & they won't.

In fairness to the person you are replying to, Apple’s money is shareholders’ money. Apple is donating shareholders’ money. So if you are an Apple shareholder, it’s you donating a share of that money to charity.

And note: I’m not saying that as a bad thing. My single largest investment is a Certified B Corp. I’m all about companies prioritizing things other than simply making money. (Which I’m sure is going to get me some downvotes for whatever reason, lol.)

If RED actually cared about HIV/AIDS patients, they'd be giving out anti-parasitic drugs treat what it actually is - a t. cruzi infection.

Some of you may not know that Fauci was heavily involved in the (botched) response to the AIDS public health crisis too. He insisted on using experimental, expensive, patentable (and ultimately ineffective) drugs on people suffering with debilitating conditions, instead of listening to doctors on the frontlines who were reporting improved outcomes using common, repurposed drugs.

All this is doing is giving a bozo like bono more money and power to fund his lifestyle. Kind of disgusting that Apple enables this absolute grifter and has been perpetuating this societal dysfunction for decades now.

The rich and powerful know to regularly take anti-parasitic drugs, as do those in developing/third world nations. I challenge anyone reading this to do your own research and find out why, and then think about ways you might be exposed to these same vectors.

Good to see Apple donating. But Apple Pay is not available everywhere. It would have been even better if Apple donates a percentage of sales from Apple website across the world irrespective of the fact whether purchase was made through Apple Pay or not.

The donation is capped at $3 million. The donation is definitely going to reach that $3 million cap regardless of whether it’s via Apple Pay or via other payment methods.

Apple saying “the cap is $3 million” is essentially Apple saying “the donation will be exactly $3 million”.

I dont care whose money Apple or any other company is donating. My comment was specifically about people who complain about others not donating enough are usually the ones who do nothing. If you can donate, do it, if others do, say thank you and move on.

Unfortunately this is human nature. People judge what others do and ignore their own actions.

Also anytime a big corporation does something people immediately become cynical. That’s because people don’t have an understanding of how things work and have unrealistic expectations. Corporations don’t donate out of some loving feeling. They donate to improve their business image. They do things, hoping customers will like them. Buy from corporations that do the things you like.

Honestly, people who are helped don’t care why an individual or company donated. The most important thing is the actual help reaching the people.

That’s (likely) the exact reaction any corporation is hoping for anytime it donates money:

We donated money, so we have inoculated ourselves from any and all criticism now. We gave money, so how dare you say anything negative about us!

It’s okay (I think) to say the donation is fine while also saying that more can be done.

Tell that to people in need and if they care about useless bickering, judgements and conspiracy theories. Help is important for them.

It kind of matters if the company making the donation the money is also the same company hurting people (in the process of making the money).

I’m not talking about Apple specifically here. Just talking about corporations in general. This is a thing that happens. It’s not a conspiracy theory. Some corporations hurt people. And some of those corporations use charity to shield themselves from criticism.

Right? Can that be acknowledged? I don’t think that’s too controversial of a thing to say. But maybe you do disagree. If so, that’s fine.

Do you think some one who hasn’t fed his children/ family for days, cares who helped him? He will bless the one who fed the family. I am not a judge nor jury, I just help people. If some people/corporations are evil, that’s their karma. They will pay the price one day.

I mean… they might care if the person donating money is the same person who hurt them in the first place (and will continue to hurt them in the pursuit of more money).

I’m not saying anything particularly original. People far, far greater than I have said similar things throughout history.

The Protestant Reformation started in opposition to selling of indulgences — reducing your sins by means of monetary payments. Not reducing your sins though true contrition and repentance. Just… throw money at it.
