Purely speculation of course; do you think Apple Pay (if/when they launch in the UK) will struggle for payments greater than £20?
Contactless payments are fairly common but only up to £20 as they lack any form of authorisation. Will the UK industry move to allow contact-less for payments greater than £20 if using Apple Pay with Touch ID authorisation?
I seem to recall that the card reader doesn't even allow contactless as an option for transactions greater than £20.
