Apple Pay is likely a few days to a few weeks away from launching in Israel, according to local website The Verifier.

The report notes that Israeli mobile banking service Pepper recently updated its iPhone app, with the release notes for the latest version mentioning a "surprise" that would be shared at a later time. Pepper may have accidentally jumped the gun, however, as the app briefly showed users a splash screen with an option to add the Pepper card to the Wallet app for use with Apple Pay. The screen is apparently no longer being shown.

This serves as pretty good evidence that Apple Pay will likely expand to Israel soon, after launching in Mexico earlier this week. First introduced in 2014, Apple Pay is now available in over 50 countries or regions around the world.

Israel is like the head of tech in the world I would of thought it would of been there a while ago,
Israel is odd. It has a very advanced high tech sector, but most tech companies target the international market rather than the domestic market.

Also, some things are very advanced here, like the Health System, which is highly digitized, while other services are old and decrepit, such as Israel Post.

Israel has a government that likes to do everything in their power to make our lives as hard as possible and expensive as possible! And the banking system are gridy to make more and more profit as possible! And finally us the citizens have a mentality to like all this suffering. The verifier is a small website that takes its information from a big Facebook group where people share things.

It is because there is so little mag stripe credit card fraud. There was little incentive to upgrade credit card terminals because there wasn’t much money to be saved by better security. We are just getting to a critical mass of terminals that can support Apple Pay.

Agreed, especially with Jon Srouji working at Apple ... I figured he'd have a connection with the Government to give a 'nudge'. Still it's good to see when someone is doing so great financially, in their expertise as leader of an industry does NOT use that clout misguidedly or for perceived personal gain.

There’s another banking app that it release notes officially states that its credit card can be used with apple pay,
This is the “Bit” app, but so far no evidence in the wallet app...
