Apple Pay has officially launched in Brazil today through an exclusive partnership with Brazilian bank Itaú Unibanco.

Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that Apple Pay would be launching in Brazil during the company's first quarter earnings call, and today the "coming soon" label was removed from Apple's website. A number of Brazilian users have been able to set up Apple Pay as of this morning, according to social media posts.

Apple Pay can be set up in the Wallet app and is accepted at a wide range of locations in Brazil, including Bullguer, Starbucks, Taco Bell, The Fifties, and Track&Field. The service is currently limited to Visa and Mastercard credit cards from Itaú Unibanco, but it will likely expand to additional banks soon.

Apple Pay works with the iPhone 6 or later and any Apple Watch. Apple Pay in apps and on the web is also available on iPads with Touch ID, including the low-cost iPad, iPad mini 3 and iPad mini 4, and iPad Pro models.

Since 2014, Apple Pay has expanded to more than a dozen countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, France, Ireland, Italy, Denmark, Finland, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, Spain, Singapore, Switzerland, Sweden, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.

Apparently it was confirmed a 90 day exclusivity to Itaú, not sure if any other country had something similar on launch. Also, it currently works only with credit cards, not debit.

...I'm still waiting on the official launch in Germany.
And how 'bout the Netherlands? Our country is full of NFC payment systems. Heck, using a workaround I've been able to pay at most locations for the last two weeks or so. Even at my the cafetaria of my school.

We need official Apple Pay support in the Netherlands, and we need it now.

Yesterday wife already paid with Apple Pay in Brazil using my US issued Mastercard. Great for now taking one less item around to get lost/stolen/forgotten.

AFAIK that was always possible. The news here is the ability to add Brazil-issued cards now.

Yes it is! But I'm an idiot. I thought this was relating to peer to peer. That'll teach me not to glance and post in a hurry. Sorry. I'm amazed Germany doesn't have straight up Apple Pay yet though?
Germany is still mostly cash based unlike most western societies. So it’s even hard finding the right card readers there to begin with!

Well once a month I keep emailing and tweeting my banks if and when they will introduce Apple Pay. Hope a lot of people do the same so they see there IS interest in Apple Pay.

I also stopped using cash and pay everything contactless to let the merchants see that contactless is accepted. As soon as a shop introduces contactless I stop using competitors who do not have it.

Feel free to copy me and hurry up the process. :)

Well, adding my cards was easy..
OTOH, I'm not sure if stores or food delivery employees will know how to handle it. People that already (try to) use Samsung Pay don't have the best stories to tell about paying with NFC

Do it the American way. If they put up a fight just make a scene and they’ll learn lol. Do what people did at CVS and leave ice cream on the counter so it will melt and say “I guess you don’t want my money”

Have you been to Germany in the last two years? I guess not because there are now NFC-ready card terminals in every shop and most cafés and restaurants. Some small tobacco shops still only accept card payments above 10€ but that will go away soon too.

Stuff like that only annoys the low-level employees, much like paying a bill with only pennies to try to prove some point. IMO, anyway.

Despite these card readers to this date Germany still has one of the lowest card using rates there is.

As a bug Apple Pay Cash also appears on my iPhone.

Well, 4 payments by far:
- 1 failure on a payment machine provided by Rede;
- 3 successful on Cielo and Getnet machines.

Silly question: is it possible to select wich card will be charged (I have 2 registered in my iPhone) before authenticating with touch id?

Yes two ways

1. Point it at the card reader but don’t Touch ID, swipe down and select a different card.
2. Double tap home button and select the card in the same method as 1.
