Apple sends out Apple Pay promotional emails on a regular basis, and this week's promotion provides a 30 percent discount on custom sunglasses or eyeglasses from Ray-Ban when using Apple Pay and the promo code APPLEPAY at checkout.

The deal applies only to custom orders on the Ray-Ban.com website, and the promotion is valid until June 3, 2020. The Ray-Ban website features a Custom Lab that allows users to choose from 37 styles, 149 lens types, and 290 color options.

Pricing for sunglasses varies based on the style chosen and add-ons, but prices are over $100. Apple's promotional email also highlights other retailers that accept Apple Pay, such as Daily Harvest, Old Navy, Pacsun, and Bath & Body Works.

Anyone else having trouble with it?

Edit: Ohh its only for custom glasses. Of course the configuration I want isn’t available as a custom pair. Haha.

I wonder if I can use this with my 30 rebate on my american express card.

What a deal. The regular price of the glasses without the APPLEPAY discount is $140 for the glasses I chose, but when I apply the APPLEPAY discount code to get the 30%, it changes the starting price to be $170.

Great offer, No thank you!
That sounds like airline ticket discounts. It's off the "regular price" that no one pays so if you want to use the discount you'll pay more 😂

Sign up for their email list and you get 25% off site wide. This isn’t a special deal.

Yes they will stack. I’ve stacked AMEX offers several times. Just make sure the amount charged to your Amex exceeds the threshold.

Looks like the website already offers you around a 18-20% discount. It's a sales tactic we're stuck with because people want to see a discount. So it isn't so much that they're increasing the price to the cover promo code - as it is that the ApplePay promo code just replaces the discount that website offers already.

A while back, JCPenny tried to ditch the "discount a high retail price" approach to store sales. The sales pitch was, if they wanted to sell a pair a jeans at $20 then they would sell them at $20, instead of selling them at $20, marked down from $70 (or whatever).

Seems like that should be a way better way to treat the customer, respect them, and earn their business, right?

Instead, it just completely tanked and destroyed their sales and drove customers over to their competitors. In order to get customers back into JCPenny stores - they had to bring back the old "discount a high retail price" sales. So like it or not we're stuck with it as a sales tactic.
