I have an 5th gen iPad air running iPadOS 18.0.1 and an apple pencil. I keep the apple pencil connected to my iPad at all times and lately I noticed when I go to use it, it is dead. I will reconnect it and it will start to charge, it charges rather quickly but the fact that I have to wait to use it when it has been connected to the iPad "charging" is slightly annoying.

Has anyone else noticed this and have a fix??

Sounds like either a dying Pencil battery or a fault with the wireless charging attachment in your iPad. Can’t hurt to try rebooting the iPad.

Can you borrow a friend’s Pencil and see if it charges properly on your iPad?

Mine does the same thing. 3rd gen iPad Pro 12.9-inch, iPadOS 18.3.2. Pencil works fine, and lives on the iPad...but just like yours, whenever I go to use it, it's at 0%. If I take it off the iPad & put it back, it charges up, but takes a few minutes. Meanwhile, I've forgotten what it was that I needed to do with it.
