Apple has two new Apple Watch Activity Challenges on the horizon, one of which will celebrate Lunar New Year and one that will celebrate Black History Month.

For the Lunar New Year, Apple is asking Apple Watch owners to do any workout for at least 20 minutes between February 1 and February 15 to win the award. It is not clear if this is a worldwide challenge or a challenge that will be limited to countries where Lunar New Year is celebrated.

Apple Watch owners can earn the "Unity" award in honor of Black History Month by closing their Move ring seven days in a row in February.

As with all of Apple's Activity Challenges, the New Year challenge will be accompanied by an award that can be viewed in the Fitness app as well as a series of animated stickers that can be used in the Messages app.

I'd definitely change my watch region just to get that tiger award if it's only restricted to countries that celebrate the Lunar New Year. I bet it looks amazing rendered in 3D!
Can you explain how exactly to do this?

When you initially set up the Apple Watch, it asks you what ‘country of origin’ you are in. You would have to erase all content and settings on your watch in order for that to happen. Unless there’s another bypass, that’s likely the only way.

That's not true. Just change your region in the watch app on your iPhone to the country you want and you're good to go. (General > Language & Region > Custom > Region > Desired country)

Why wouldn't this be a worldwide challenge? Isn't Apple for worldwide equality? Did they do regional-only challenges in the past?

I don't have an Apple Watch so.... what's the purpose of these completion awards? Do you get something special for completing the activity and obtaining the award?

I used to like getting the trophies for random events when I still had a watch but then it felt like stickers in elementary school to me 🤷‍♂️

So the answer is no.

The award is just something to brag about... tell all your Instagram followers about.

Gotcha! 👍
No, it is just a fun little motivational treat to push everyone with the watch to be more active. Even without the awards, sometimes i do a brisk walk in the evening to “close the rings”. It is just a way to bring a bit of fun to exercising.

What about those who don't want/care about the badges?
If I close my move rings 7 days in a row do I have to accept the badge?
Can I decline it or must I just not exercise 7 days in a row
