I have been looking for an iSight camera for my 17" PowerBook. I have bid up to *$220* on eBay for one. It sold for $245. American. That's $261.34 Canadian. Plus shipping.

Apple. Please. Sell the iSight again. Just for like 2 weeks. I want one so bad I can taste it. It sits so perfectly atop my PowerBook. Its quality is unrivaled (to my experience).

Please. Sell iSight again, for $179 or whatever you sold it for. I would gladly pay that.

I do realize that most USB webcams work with Mac OS X.4.8+ (or was it 4.9..) anyway, I want a damn iSight because of its (reputed) quality and ease of use and portability. I like how it sits on my screen and faces me, and the design is just awesome, it would look amazing on my PowerBook.

Does anyone know of a webcam that would mount suitably on a PowerBook screen?

Have you tried craigslist in your area? Sometimes you find good deals...

Also have you checked this place Macnn.com

I totally agree. The Cinema Displays are still without iSight, so what about people who spend so much money on a monitor, and want a webcam as well?

Heresy, I say.

and i think the isight camera i use with my ibook is better quality than the one built in to my imac.

The old models have a lot of toxic stuff in them. So much, in fact, they were about to be barred from resale in some areas of Europe. We were all expecting new ones to be out, maybe even based on USB since that's the way the internal ones are connected, but not even that. Same with displays with iSights. Nothing. Based on the price difference, you'd think Apple would do it just to boost sales of their displays, just to get people to want to buy them. I'm sure something is coming, especially with their big iChat push with the effects and all. But for now, if you have an older model or a Mac Pro or mini, you're kinda stuck.

I use my spare fw camcorder BTW, and it looks great... not that I have anyone to iChat with.

That's what I do, but I have to set it up on my tripod. Whenever I want to talk to my girlfriend in China, I have to set up the basement so it looks like I'm filming a porno. An iSight would just be a better solution.

I think Apple understands that the ACDs are not for everyone, so why not make a web cam that is for everyone. Maybe even make it PC compatible, along with new iChat for Vista?

I'd be happy to sell you mine. I used it for the last year to chat with my girlfriend, but we've just graduated and moved in together and I won't be needing it anymore.

PM me if you're interested.

Cheers:apple:

I have the same PB with identical specs. I love the iSight. Right now it's sitting on top of my ACD that's hooked to my PB.
I don't understand why Apple discontinued it. Even with built-in iSights I'd still use the mountable one, simply you can pan/tilt it- unlike the built-in.

Meh. I dig the quality of the MacBook iSight more than my iSight. However, my iSight has the added bonus of being easily adjustable in any direction I want. Wish I could get that with the built-in ones.

However, the quality of the webcam matters little compared to the things you can do to improve everything else, like noted in here: http://strobist.blogspot.com/2007/05/how-to-improve-your-cheapo-webcams.html
