I hope apple updates their maps app for iOS5, its one area where Android absolutely shreds it with Google Maps. Especially with version 5.7 that was just released today.

maps... AND text-to-speech! Android is kicking butt there as well!

Seriously? Have you turned gps on on an android phone? Yeah that 6 hour battery life drops to an hour. WOW way ahead

It's real fun scrolling over in the maps app while trying not to run my car off the road. I am surprised Apple basically hasn't changed it since the iphone launched.

So you're blaming and app and apple for your stupidity in driving while distracted and using a phone? sounds more like a you issue bro!:)

Not blaming anybody "bro", just pointing out that the maps app badly needs to be updated to match what the competition is offering out of the box.

its not just andriod...any navigation app running on the iphone drains the battery too.

Or do what I do, save some money and buy TomTom or whatever you feel like navigation app. The best solution IMO, and the battery does not drain too much ;)

To me it came off as an anecdotal way of saying that Apple desperately needs to add text-to-speech (aka turn-by-turn navigation). I just changed from Android to iPhone last week, and desperately missed my old phone's cooked-in nav, as I too nearly drove off the road trying to reference Maps.

Yeah, but you're not supposed to be using your phone while driving period, you two numbskulls! no wonder youre both driving off the road, you're using your phone while driving. Just saying....thanks for chiming in! :)

I agree that one shouldn't use their phone while driving. I never text and drive. However, when you are lost and need to know just how lost you are, you have no choice (in my case there was no shoulder to safely pull onto, and there were no public areas i.e. parkings lots of businesses, for 30 miles around).

If Maps had turn-by-turn voice, I'd have never had to look at my phone. I NEVER picked up my Android phone when navigating unfamiliar areas, ever.

 Continue drinking the Apple flavored Kool Aid. There's no denial that Google Maps/Navigation is vastly better than Apple's Maps app.

No one asked for a smartass reply.

Too late for iOS5, since it's in beta, it's pretty much feature complete, just little tweaks. Maps will be iOS6 at best

Thanks for adding absolutely nothing to the discussion. BTW, it wasn't that funny the first time you posted it.

You had best email Steve and write here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I don't see any reason this would mean no maps until iOS 6. The map app could be updated with any major point release.

Nah, judging from all the stuff over the last year with apple acquiring mapping things, it's gotta be a major overhaul, which takes time plus they'll want to have it as a major new OS feature.

That said, they may prove me wrong
