MacRumors readers Daniel (photo above) and Matthew let us know that Apple had posted a new digital sign overnight at the location of their upcoming Grand Central Station store. The sign reads "Apple Store, Grand Central. Arriving Soon."

There had been some reports suggesting an imminent launch, though construction workers have said there still is a lot to do that would push the opening into December.

Update: The New York Post reports that Apple is planning to open the new store on Friday, December 9th, but no official announcement has yet been made.

Update 2: techfootnote has posted a brief video showing the flipping animation on the new signage. Additional messages beyond the "Arriving Soon" note include "Grand Central Has Added Another Stop." and "Get Your Train(ing) Here."

Ahhh ... I see what they've done there !!! ;)

I think the idea is that the sign matches the general look and style of the Metro North train departures/arrivals boards, which are on the adjoining walls of the Grand Central Station Main Hall.

This store will be right across the from my office. *Sigh* Between this and the new craft beer store that just opened in Grand Central, the dollars are going to be flying out of my wallet.

"Delayed" would have been funnier.

Is it animated in any way?

Its flips around just like those old school train station signage does. It displayed one other comment other than the one in the picture. Had something to do with picking up merchandise on your way home. I wasn't really paying much attention.

It's Grand Central Terminal not Grand Central Station.

It's Grand Central Terminal not Grand Central Station.

It's official name is the former, but its known as the latter as well.

Now it is getting ridiculous. A post about a sign at an Apple Store? Seriously? I know things are slow around the holiday, but this is crazy. I hope the next post is about someone sweeping up in front of the store. I am begging you to stop with the incessant posts about Apple stores. They are worthless to the vast majority of people that come to this site. At least move them off the main page. I don't care about this store, one in San Fransisco, one in Europe, or even the one in my town. There are now hundreds of Apple stores. When there were three, a new one opening was news. Not anymore. Let it go.

Apparently it was ridiculous enough to entice you to come in, read and post. DOH !!!

I'd like to buy a vowel.

That would have been funnier! I'm going to be there in December; I would love for the store to be open by then to check it out.

Grand Central Station is the name of the post office next door to Grand Central Terminal. The MTA subway station below Grand Central Terminal is also referred to as Grand Central Station. However, the concourse where the Apple Store is being built is located in Grand Central Terminal.

This is the dumbest and most predictable reply to my type of post.

One, the article is on the main page (Edit:I see this was not on the main page, but on the Mac Blog. The mobile site puts them all together. So I do appreciate this one not being on the main page.), and at one point was the lead story. So if you visit the site at all, it is impossible to miss. And there was another main page story about this store yesterday, I think. So there was no extra effort required to "come in" and read it as you imply.

Two, why would I not post my feedback about a story in the comments of that story? How would I expect the site improve if I don't give any feedback? Maybe Arn and the others that run this site don't agree with me and think the Apple Store stories are interesting. Maybe they bring page views. I don't know. I do know that saying nothing and hoping for change is silly though.

Maybe you think think these stories are worthwhile. That is your opinion. Mine is obviously that they are not. And I am just as entitled to come in, read and post as you are.

DOH indeed.

Translation: Apple management nipped the typical union worker draw out to tap this project for another month of labor. They had a Black Friday opening goal since it started and they are meeting it. Sole are getting triple time working Thankgiving day and night for this opening.

I am sure someone somewhere is trying to hack this sign and put up something else.

Also, it has been reported that Apple is concerned about security.

So much that they contacted DHS (Department of Homeland Security) and that is the reason for the soldier (NY National Guard?) standing guard below the sign.

Apple will continue to ride the hype wave as long as it continues. Don't like it? Don't add to the tide.

A store in Basingstoke, 20 miles from my home town is not newsworthy, I agree. But, a prime position in probably the most iconic and well known railway station in the World is.

I saw the sign in person yesterday. It's actually very cool, because it mimics the 'flip' as the individual letters change.
