Apple on Monday seeded the first beta of tvOS 18.2 to developers for testing, and the upcoming update includes hidden code-level references to new screen savers coming soon, according to MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris.

The code shows there will be four categories of screen savers added to the Apple TV, including Snoopy, TV and Movies, Music, and Soundscapes.

The new screen savers will likely become visible in a later tvOS 18.2 beta version. Apple's website indicates that the Snoopy and TV and Movies options are "coming late 2024," and the Music and Soundscapes options will likely be available then too. We expect tvOS 18.2 to be released to the public in December, in line with the late 2024 timeframe.

At least some of the new screen saver options, including Snoopy, will require a second-generation Apple TV 4K or newer, according to Apple.

Existing screen saver categories on the Apple TV include Aerials and Memories, along with a Portraits option with clocks added in tvOS 18.0.

I just want them to fix their API that they broke with TVOS 18 for their official IP control of Apple TV for smart home systems. This is infuriating that they knew about the issue (it was reported during beta testing) and they didn't fix it and rolled out the broken API. They have obviously been working on a lot of new products that I'm sure are way more pressing for them, but to break something that is the official way to integrate with their product (not some janky workaround) and not fix it in a timely fashion is ridiculous. Savant, Control4, Creston, etc are all broken (you can obviously revert to IR control).

Great news. They should give us an opportunity to manage these screensavers and space they take up on the device. Let us finally administer the storage on Apple TV!

I wish the Photos/Memories that use your pwn photos a la Ken Burns effect acted more like the Portraits with a slower, cropped version with a Time Overlay. the Portraits are serene but the Ken Burns feels too fast.

I don’t want any more useless categories. I just want to pick any screensavers I like. How hard is this? A simple list of all available screensavers (there are hundreds by now), with checkboxes to select them. That’s it.

But nope, here are a few categories to select one from, with a bunch of screensavers in it that I have no interest in. Great.

Is there really nothing better they could be doing with dev time on tvOS?
There must be so many other important things to work on here, no?

It cracks me up that they made the Mac Mini "even smaller", for no particularly obvious useful reason..

But something a ton of folks probably WOULD love to be smaller, is the Apple TV (or a variant option at least)

I think a ton of the install base would be more than happy with a tiny ATV Nano/Stick form factor

How is the Music screensaver new? It looks exactly like the one I've been using for many years.

My Aerials still cycles through the same 6 or so screensavers. When will this bug get fixed? I’ve reported it for years.

Wish they'd put as much efffort into noise input rejection on the Apple Remote... If I look at that remote funny or fart (while not sitting on the remote :)) it suddenly interprets that as some command input stream... that's the "Apple Intelligence" that would make my daily life better

welll…I just have the lowly HD Apple TV, he looks absolutely fine with my lowly 1080p TV. I’ll just have to stick to those screensavers, although I had wished that they would do more of the world’s special monuments. Would love to have seen the Eiffel Tower, etc., as screensavers.
