With the launch of the iPhone 7 in 2016, Apple debuted a new "Jet Black" color, which was a glossy, shiny finish that was a departure from the standard brushed aluminum finishes of the iPhones that preceded it.

Jet Black was unique because of how dark it was in comparison to other "black" and "space gray" finishes at the time. Apple hasn't used the same Jet Black finish for another phone to date, but according to images shared today by leaker Mr. White, Apple tested a Jet Black iPhone X.

The iPhone X was available in a silver color that was close to white and a space gray color that was quite dark, but it was not as dark as the Jet Black color shown off in the prototype photos.

The alleged prototype device does not have an Apple logo or other certification marks, nor a finished camera design, but it is otherwise identical to an iPhone X. It's not clear if Apple will bring back the Jet Black colorway in the future, but Apple has been using a standard black color for the iPhone 11 and 12 models.

Let's be honest, the iPhone X is still the best looking iPhone that Apple has ever made, especially in Silver.
I would really have preferred this Jet Black to the Space Gray we got tho.
I'd argue that it's the Gold Xs color, but yeah, that design is iconic.
iPhone 5 Slate Grey is possibly also one of their best designs.

The Jet Black iPhone 7 looked really smart, think the X would have looked fantastic with it!

my 7 looked great!... the day I sold it when I took the case off for the first time in years.... honestly who cares what these phones colors are. no one carries them naked

Jet Black was cool because of the unique machining done to the aluminum to give it a glossy finish.

It wouldn’t be the same to have another colorway called Jet Black on a device made out of glass and stainless steel.

Umm, is it just me or does that Jet Black iPhone X (first picture) definitely have an Apple logo on it? You have to zoom in on it, but it is there.

:apple:
Yes it is there. It’s just harder to see with the dark black color

I'm curious if Apple would go to a semi-popular auto route and bring out like a matted black color. In my own head, that seems hot, but not sure what it would look like in reality.

You mean similar to the regular black iPhone 7? The current frosted glass backs would look good with a similar finish on the side bands (I don't really like the glossy stainless with the current design).

Maybe??? I went from 6S Plus to iPhone X, so I don't have a good memory on how the black looked on the 7. Searching Google, it kinda looks like it, just needs the current iPhone X/11/12 format. Frosted glass would definitely have to go with that.
