Apple recently purchased additional real estate in its hometown of Cupertino, reports The Mercury News, expanding its presence in the Bay Area of California.

Apple purchased two office buildings located at the corner of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Torre Avenue for a total of $290 million. The office buildings, known as Cupertino City Center 1 and Cupertino City Center 2, are close to its Infinite Loop and Apple Park campuses.

One building features 168,000 square feet, while the other measures in at 146,000 square feet, and Apple was already leasing both locations.

Over the course of the last several years, Apple has been buying up office space in Cupertino and surrounding cities Sunnyvale and San Jose as the company grows to accommodate additional corporate employees.

I know the area well, that's close to where I grew up.

Those are really old buildings in an absolutely Excellent Location !

I suspect Apple will tear down the buildings ASAP, & build something new & nice.

The location is probably the best Apple (now) has in ALL of silicon valley !

Imagine landing a dream job at Apple and then finding out that you're not working in the cool building.

Idk about Apple; but my experience is that working the satellite buildings is often much better than the headquarters. It's usually a simultaneously relaxed and focused. Relaxed in that your odds of running into someone that isn't a familiar co-worker is low, but focused in that there are fewer distractions. I wouldn't be too upset at not working at the spaceship campus as long as I could visit it anytime I wanted.

In so many ways Apple Park is incredible, but in others - a total fail. All the land and opportunity to bring everyone together yet they’re still massively reliant on satellite campuses and rented office space.

I just can’t fathom why apple has so many employees when they only make 2 phones, 3 tablets, a watch, some earbuds, 3 laptops, 3 desktops, 1 monitor and some services...

I know to maintain two operating systems and some hardware is big work but... 10s of thousands?

Well, 70,000 of them work at Apple stores. That leaves about 65,000.

That might seem like a lot, maybe it is. But large companies have large numbers of employees. Microsoft is at 140,000+ and Amazon has 650,000+ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's amazing how fast headcount can grow when you consider that outside of R&D projects and supporting existing products Apple also needs people in HR, payroll, global sales & distribution, investor relations... and more.
