I'm still doing a bit of research into a future MBP purchase, and was curious about the RAM.

To upgrade to 3GB from Apple, it's like an additional $500 (basically that for the 2GB stick). Ouch. However, according to DMS, I can get a 2GB stick for $165, which is a much sexier looking price.

Is there anything I need to be aware of or why there's such a price difference between the two? Are there advantages to getting it from Apple? I mean, if I can save a few hundred bucks, then hell yeah, I'm on board, but I don't want to do it if the RAM is significantly inferior (remember, I'm a hardware idiot) or may cause my MBP to act awry.

There won't be any problem with the DMS RAM. Apple charges an outrageous premium for RAM. Don't buy it unless you're wanting to contribute your $ to Apples' bottom line and receive nothing in return.

noted, and basically what my suspicions were.
