Apple today made a tweak to the iTunes Store app in iOS 17.3, giving users access to their TV show and movie wishlists. Apple with iOS 17.2, iPadOS 17.2, and tvOS 17.2 killed wishlists without warning when it moved the option to purchase TV shows and movies from the iTunes Store app to the TV app.

Wishlist access was actually re-added to tvOS 17.2 just a few days after the update went live, but there has been no way to access a wishlist on an iPhone or iPad updated to iOS 17.2 or iPadOS 17.2.

With Apple's over-the-air update, iPhones and iPads running the iOS 17.3 beta will now have a "Go to Your Wish List" button under the Movie and TV Show sections, which provides access to everything that's been added to the list in the past. The list was first noticed by Twitter user Federico.

It may be a good idea to write down the TV shows and movies that are in the list because it might not be around forever. The Apple TV app that Apple has transitioned to does not have a wishlist function and instead adds content to the "Up Next" interface.

iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3 are set to be released to the public next week.

Amazing someone woke up and realized a lot of iOS/IPadOS 17.x users were upset with the loss of iTunes Store wishlists.

I'm guessing Apple never imagined they'd sell anything other than music when they created the iTunes Store. Now they're stuck with the name.

"Where do I buy movies and TV shows?"

"In the iTunes Store, of course!"

:p

As long as you select the music tab at the bottom you still have access to your wishlist. Even without 17.3

Definitely keep providing feedback to Apple when they do stuff like this at https://www.apple.com/feedback/
Maybe they’re actually reading these?

I‘ll miss the function of the dedicated Movies app on the Apple TV…just make it a shortcut w/o the notification that it moved. Had they done that in the first place it wouldn’t have been as annoying. 🤷‍♂️

So weird that they don’t add the wishlist to the AppleTV app on tvOS. That seems like the logical place to put it and then have it be able to search all the apps in the AppleTV app for the show. Sure, that may lead to some lost rentals and purchases on iTunes but it may also lead to more sales overall. Not having the wishlist is one reason I didn’t update one of my AppleTVs.

A few years AFTER launching the iTunes Store, Jobs himself stood on stage ridiculing a growing customer want: "who would want video on an iPod?"

...only to roll out iPod with Video about a gen or two later.

And of course, originally Apple was a well-known, registered name chosen by the Beatles for their business less than a decade before the other Apple name was selected... which has led to a variety of legal events & settlements over the decades.

Apple could rebrand iTunes any time they like. Some bucks and a press release or two and it would be done. I doubt many user's would even care... after a comparable dustup like when Apple Computer became just Apple Inc.

That is why I have not updated my ATV to 7.2 it is the only way I can track the movie and TV show I want to buy, I wait until they go on sale.

honestly, I hadn't noticed. Before cinema was destroyed by Corona, very good and very high quality movies were being released left and right. Last year, we had... Mario and the third Guardians movie, some bad remakes and some overdone sequels.

2024 looks much worse. The only Marvel movie I see slated is Deadpool 3, which, unfortunately, is not one I can take my young kids to go see.

It sure will. Search results are not the same in the store vs the TV app. A lot of shows don’t even show up in the TV app.

I hope Apple folks are listening here. They need to revamp the store ASAP. I can already tell I am not going to be able to find the indie gems that I loved. It was FUN to browse the Movies / TV Show apps. I don't feel the same for the new TV app. I find that they are pushing recommendations that are hit or miss, and certainly not showing the off-the-wall gems that could be easily found in the old apps.

I've purchased like 600+ movies and shows on iTunes, and I can see my purchases slowing down a TON already, and they may come to a complete halt unless further improvements are made.

I may be in the minority but I despise the new ATV interface. I hate the side bar, multiple clicks needed to get back there. Moving the store to the same area is even worse. It's not very clear when searching, how to get the item. You now how to scroll down to see a list of everywhere it's available, rent, buy, etc. When I go to the store, I intend to rent or buy. I already know where else it's available. I recently tried to play something and every time I did, it tried to open in HULU. I did not want that! I wanted to rent it.

Terrible interface. I also am now stuck seeing MLB on the side bar. I don't watch sports, don't care to see it and I have no way to remove it. Wasted space.
