Apple rebate for ipod

I was just wondering how the apple rebate came? I read in one of the archives after googleing(sp) that it is a instore credit, but it does not say on the website or in the terms and conditions. I know some stores give instore credit, so I am just wondering, since i was going to give the ipod away or sell it, but i dont want store credit, since i dont usually buy stuff from the apple store.
