Apple Receipt Question?

I just realized that I lost my receipt for my imac. Do I really need it for anything? I already have AppleCare

Mostly you wont need the receipt however I've had to present one to resolve a conflict over the original date of purchase of a computer from an authorized reseller. Apples' records were off by months but they readily accepted the receipt as proof of the date of sale. Without the receipt, we would have lost several months of warranty coverage.
