MacEdition's Naked Mole Rat Report provides details of upcoming Apple releases at the National Association of Broadcasters conference (April 7-10).

Upcoming apps reportedly include Final Cut Pro 4, DVD Studio Pro 2, and Shake 3.

Apple sent out an invitation to journalists for a Press Conference at the NAB conference which will provide details on Apple's "strategic direction for digital video production technologies".

LoopRumors had first reported on Final Cut Pro 4 appearing at the NAB, and ThinkSecret anticipating DVD Studio Pro 2 at this same conference.

Oh yeah, BAY-BEEE, FCP 4!

Hope it's got a lot of goodies in it! I like FCP3 but heck, if FCP4's better, newer, cooler, hipper, and just darn better-er-er-er, than I'm there!

:D

Those are pretty slim pickings. No one really has any details as to what the new features will be. No insiders where video is concerned I guess...

I hope DVD studio pro has enhanced their interface.

Just today I have been searching information about DVD burning and every time I find some review about DVD studio pro all of them say the interface is just no friendly or intuitive, I'm agree with them about thet.

It is strange that the interface for iDVD is so different from FCP and DVDSP.

Lets see what Apple prepared for us.

One of the rumors I've heard among the pro DVD set, and this is definitely just a rumor, is that Apple is finally going to release a Hardware based encoder for DVDSP that uses some of the technology they got when they bought Spruce. That same rumor says there may be a bit more of a retooling of DVDSP to make it more pro, which in my opinion is a big task since I definitely don't think that it's that pro now...but maybe I'm just a Sonic using snob, so what do I know.

iPod won't be announced. NAB is for Pro Video users Apple's not going to waste their time pushing an mp3 player.

Actually, NAB is for radio and tv broadcasters, and is focused on digital media markets. Yes, the overwhelming focus is on video markets, but there is a sizeable audio element to the show.

The 5GB is MIA, the 10GB is (rumored to be) EOL'd and even the 20GB is in short supply. Unless Apple plans to drop the iPod, they need to do something soon.

Assuming the music service rumors are true, NAB would be an appropriate place to announce such a service, and associated product updates (iPod, iTunes, etc).

(Granted CES is more appropriate for this sort of thing, but Apple doesn't make much of that show.)

I wonder of this implies a new release of Final Cut Express...

Extremely unlikely, I'd say. Doesn't FCE already have more transitions and effects than FCP does?

(Not that that precludes it from being upgraded, it's just that FCE actually has certain things that FCP doesn't have.)

I have to disagree with this, as far as I'm concerned, DVDSP's interface is perfectly simple, the few adjustments that could be made are in menus with video buttons/backgrounds, and render time. For professionals who use professional software this is really all we need

FCP 4

Look at the most requested features for FCP.. Here_at_LAFCPUG . You will get an idea of what is really being asked for by a lot of pros. FCP4 is sure to address many of the top requests. They have been quiet for a year. You know they are cooking up something good.

Those so-called "strategic directions...." better involve way, way faster CPUs and in very short order thank-you very much...especially for that crowd and in light of Adobe's recent torching of Apple offerings for video production...

Sorry. Don't mean to be a Mac Fanactic but, Adobe has nothing on FCP. If FCP was released for the PC they would close the Premiere project tomorrow.. And I cut on premeire for years. They are in the dark ages. After sunday the diparity will be even greater.

just my 2¢

DVD Studio Pro Interface

The New interface for DVD Studio Pro will be a much more drag and drop feel, similer to what iDVD has, obviosuly will a much more professional application look & feel. The control menu on the left of the screen will also stay, with a similer range of options as before.

There will also be many more options in prefrence menus, it will also link in FCP 4 a lot better, the linking between apps will work in a similer way to the DVD Creation side of Pinacle's Edition 5 Editing software.

Apples support for the current output options will all stay the same aswell.

I hope it's nice

I'm sure FCP 4 will be a nice upgrade, hopefully it will recieve some of the top 10 requested features as posted above, like realtime audio effects and mixing, as well as multiple camera support. I think we'll see a lot more realtime effects to compete with the many available in AVID DV Express.

As for DVD studio pro, nice app, works well, but I have to admit, I do a lot of projects in iDVD for he simple drag and drop, and easy menu and button creation.

Have any of you seen the new DVD Encore that Adobe just announced. To me, as huge an Apple fan as I am, and you couldn't pry FCP away from me, however, their new Encore is very very very intriguing. It looks to have the easy drag and drop use of iDVD, plus the features of DVD studio pro. It's timeline based, and I think that's easier for doing Audio and subtitles and chapter makers. And, it has PhotoShop style tools built in for creating titles and menus from with in the program. So you can make the majority of you changes, from with in Encore. It just looks to have a lot more flexibility, you can change everything more during a project, versus preparing it all before, then simply building in the DVD app.

Anyhoo, I hope a new DVD SP adds some nice features like this, I'm sure they will, Apple does a great job with their apps, and I'm sure they surprise us in many ways as well.

Either way, I'll be using DVD SP, as Encore won't be out till mid to late summer, and according to Adobes FAQ, it will only be PC compatible in the first rev.
