Apple yesterday released a pair of printer driver updates for Snow Leopard users, delivering updated compatibility for users of Brother and Samsung printers and multifunction devices.

- Brother Printer Drivers for Mac OS X v10.6, Version 2.3 (100.02 MB)

- Samsung Printer Drivers for Mac OS X v10.6, Version 2.1 (23.25 MB)

Both updates requires Mac OS X 10.6.1, and full details on printer compatibility can be found in Apple's associated support document.

LOL, I had the exact same reaction. Software Update pops up, yay, could it be 10.6.3? Meh, just an update for the printer drivers :C

Samsung SCX-4500W

Any word on whether the Samsung SCX-4500W has a functioning "Scan to PC" button when it is plugged into the network (not USB)?

All I know is that this seemed to fix the problem I had with my Samsung CLP-315 Color laser being shared over my Airport Extreme. I welcome this more than 10.6.3. I know that is coming sooner or later, wasn't sure if this was ever going to...

Update: Yep, definitely seemed to fix it. Sweet.

An Idle Samsung

A friend of mine got that piano-finish black multi-use Samsung printer that came out a couple of years ago and was heavily promoted on the Apple Store online, and I can't even count the number of times I had to go over to his house to look at the poor thing. It seemed to always drop off the Airport base station to which it attached. The only way it seemed reliable was direct USB. So let's hope there's been some Bonjour fix for it, because at the moment, it's just sitting in a cupboard somewhere, from what I understand, just collecting dust, even though it probably printed no more than 50 pages in its life!

Snow-Leopard's promise of having updateable drivers is great - I just hope it works out for the best. I know several people who are scared to go to SL from Leopard just because of their hearing about printing issues. (For me, SL's been just fine, however.)

I guess I forgot to re-edit my previous post. The update has made the samsung 315 more reliable, but it still doesn't always print the first time you send the job. It usually does it the second time, but at least the printer seems to not need to be restarted. Still not too satisfying.
