Apple today released Logic Pro 11.1 for Mac and Logic Pro 2.1 for iPad, adding new features for songwriting, producing, and mixing. There's a new Quantec Room Simulator plug-in that uses the original algorithms and code from Quantec founder Wolfgang Buchleitner, allowing users to add naturalistic acoustic space to their music with Quantec QRS, or to select Quantec Yardstick for more accurate modeling of acoustic spaces.

Plug-in search lets Final Cut Pro users find and add any plug-in from the plug-in menu without clicking on a channel strip insert. Users can search by categories, company name, or part of a plug-in name.

There is a new Modular Melodies sound back that includes hundreds of loops crafted from patchable hardware synths and a collection of meticulously designed Alchemy synth patches.

Along with these features, the app also includes several enhancements.
  • Drag channel strips to organize your mixer layout
  • Send your mix directly to Voice Memos and preview on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch
  • Click on any plug-in slot while holding the command key to quickly remove plug-ins
  • Quickly set input, output, side chain source, or bus routings using in-menu search
  • Use key commands to move Marquee selections in all directions to speed up editing
Apple has also released a new version of Logic Remote with stability improvements and bug fixes.

Can't wait to Airdrop myself a copy from a display Mac in a local store.

EDIT: In case it's not clear, this is a joke. Yes, you can Airdrop these apps right off a display Mac, you've been able to for a long time. No, I'm not going to actually do it, partly because I already have an older version, and partly because I never use it.

You’re in for a shock when it stops working as the licence will be MDM-issued and therefore device-based, and your Mac won’t have it…
I've had an Airdropped version of Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for quite a while now and both still work. I never really use them, I just read about it and was curious to see if it would work. Neither has ever stopped working, so yes, I guess it would be a little shocking to see Apple close this loophole after so many years.

nope

any version of LogicPro.app will work on any macOS install just fine

I bought it years ago anyway because it's an absolute steal for the price anyway, and a lot of what I use it for does get released commercially

but it's doesn't really have any real "piracy" protection

I always thought those apps are much too expensive at least for me because I am no Pro and bought them with an education bundle for maybe 250€ I think. It was less then the most expensive app. It included Logic, Final Cut, Compressor, Motion and Main Stage. That was in 2017.

I pirated them before. But I think updates didn't work then. Also I don't use them very much. I just wanted to try what they can do.

It's really great that there are still free major updates for this time.

I noticed Main Stage is 11 months old and didn't get an update, all others did.

The only non-free Apple app that is missing on my Mac was Remote Desktop. But know I have a beta for free. ;)

“When a Mac is paired with a Vision Pro, the Mac Virtual Display can be used for editing spatial video with the Final Cut Pro software. “

Does this mean you can’t create spatial video without owning a Vision?

The "piracy protection" in Logic is its hardware dongle: the Mac itself.

You need to replace your Mac from time to time if you want the latest Logic version (for example, you now need a M powered Mac)

Does this version require apple silicon now?

The last one did not (just for a couple of the “ai” mastering options)

If that’s the case then you would need a mac

Previously you could run the latest version on any x86 computer that could run macos.

Was doing this myself up until last week

As long as the device supports the required OS then it’s supported, whatever the platform. Some features can still require M-series cpu’s (mainly AI related I expect).

looks like it still only requires Ventura

so still works on intel (just missing a few features as before)

so still don't actually need a Mac

I was running Ventura and Logic 11. The Logic 11.1 update wasn't available until I updated the OS (I went to Sequoia/15.1)
Last I saw, the Apple website does still say Ventura as a minimum OS though. But I expect it needs updating.
