Apple today released a new firmware update for all AirPods 4 models. The AirPods 4 firmware has a build number of 7B19, up from the previous 7A304 firmware that came out in September.

There is no word yet on what's included in the new AirPods 4 firmware, but it is available for both the standard AirPods 4 and the AirPods 4 with ANC. This is the second firmware update that the AirPods 4 have received since they launched earlier this year.

Apple recently updated the AirPods Pro 2 to add Hearing Health capabilities like a hearing test, hearing protection, and hearing aid functionality. The AirPods Pro 2 also run the 7B19 firmware, but hearing aid functionality will not be included in the AirPods 4.

Apple doesn't have a way to manually upgrade AirPods software, but firmware is generally installed over-the-air when the AirPods are in a charging case and connected to an iOS device or Mac.

In the uk AirPods Pro 2 still not showing up hearing tests.

I am on iOS 18.2 so that may confuse things

I just bought a pair of these with ANC to replace my original Pros. I'm tired of the silicon tips and love that the case is smaller. I hope they are able to keep improving the ANC through firmware so it's not too big of a falloff for me.

When you swipe down and pull up the Control Center when on the phone, and choose the new control at the top/center (Phone Controls), if I choose Standard, or Automatic, my Airpod 4 ANC's turn to garbage. I can't hear ANYTHING being said. It breaks up something awful. If I set it to Voice Isolation, it works just fine. (Except then my voice is clipped some when I am talking to someone else.

I don't use my AirPods Pro 2 all that often. However, I tried them about a week ago and my right Pod no longer works. No AppleCare, so I guess I'm screwed. I would assume it was a Firmware update that F'd it since I rarely use them but I don't really know.

The best all round product Apple have released for a while
when they work, they sound great. the 'it just works' and continuity confusion doesnt, so much. then you have siri butting in to listen and steal focus only to never bring the volume of your music back up...

not super impressed with the software, not so polished

The AirPods 4 are one of the better sound earbuds without eartips. I must have at least 25-30 different pairs of earbuds and the AP4’s are one of my favorites. Spatial Audio with head tracking is incredible. I was thinking of buying the AirPods Pro 2 but i’ll wait for the APP 3, hopefully next year.

It’s the same for me too - even though I have seen some people have it appear on their phone.

Edit: it’s not available to us in the UK yet:

I hope this update enables sound on my AirPods. It’s been a bit of a disappointment not being able to hear anything, but they are super comfortable and look good 😀

Thanks for that. Save me from looking any further

I just finished the hearing test. If you are using aftermarket eartips you have to take them off if it gives you the cleaning error. Just take them off and put the AirPods back in the case. Then it will let you start the test and you can put the tips back on before starting the test. The test really revolves around can you hear in the speech range, which I can but my Tinnitus blows out the higher ranges At low volumes. Interesting but not something I did not know.

How do I update my airpods?
Use them for about 20 minutes, put them in their case and place them next to your phone before you crash for the night. They tend to update overnight. At least that’s how it works 100% of the time for me each time there is an update.

Am I in the minority of thinking these just sound bad, compared to earlier generations? Really boomy and unclear, I found, and couldn't get music to sound good with any EQ setting. Sadly sent them back. Tastes will vary on this, I know, but I went back to my 2nd generation. I'm genuinely curious what others' experiences have been.

I'm getting close to returning my AP4 ANC actually, for exactly this reason

This is my 2nd pair of them (first ones, the ANC was weird for me)...

With the current pair, I just keep thinking how "meh" it actually sounds
I wouldn't say my AP2s sound "better", but I just find it more pleasing for how I use these I guess?

I'm not sure what I'll do yet -- thankfully bought at Costco so I have as much time as I'd like to decide

After the update I could finally add safe locations in FindMy for the AirPods 4. So far I always got an error in FindMy and getting a notification every time I left the house without the AirPods was starting to become annoying.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my Airpod 4s. So easy to whip in and out of the ears, and the ANC is just enough to kill 90% of external noise without feeling I'm totally unplugged from my surroundings. They make it a joy to listen to music and podcasts whilst walking through a busy city. Sort of like having a "relax mode" button even when surrounded by hundreds of noisy people.
