Apple today released new beta firmware for the AirPods Pro 2, including both the Lightning and USB-C versions. The updated firmware has a build number of 7A5220e, and it is available to developers at the current time.

At today's keynote event, Apple introduced several new features that are coming to the AirPods Pro 2 as part of iOS 18, including head gestures, and these features may be included in the firmware update.

With head gestures, users can control Siri on the AirPods Pro with a shake or a nod of the head. If you get a phone call, for example, you can shake your head no if you don't want to answer it, or nod to accept the call. Siri interactions can be used for responding to incoming messages, calls, and notifications.

Apple is adding Voice Isolation to the AirPods Pro to cut down on loud background sounds to make you easier to hear, and there is a new Personalized Spatial Audio feature specific to gaming. Game developers will be able to incorporate spatial audio into their games for a more immersive audio experience.

ugh the nod thing is going to be airpods pro 2 only isnt it
Yes, but thankfully it'll be work if you have the current model of the 2nd gen AirPods Pro regardless of whether you have the slightly updated revision that has the USB-C charging case or just the Lightning charging case

I have the latter myself, so I'm covered

How is this Voice Isolation a new thing? Honestly I feel like it was already there!
It's not. It's been enabled on voice calls over cellular since iOS 17 and on FaceTime and VOIP calls before that. Maybe they're saying the feature smart enables itself while on a call if it detects you're in a noisy environment like a bar or walking past a construction site like the video showed.

Yes, it is. When making calls from AirPods, there is a voice isolation feature in the control center that has been working for a long time and has made it possible to have a better experience.

Install again through the developer menu?

Even this is been there for the last year in adaptive mode.

I don't get this "Apple is adding Voice Isolation to the ‌AirPods Pro‌ to cut down on loud background sounds to make you easier to hear' Maybe this is lazy editorial?

No. It's literally what Apple demonstrated in their presentation.

I suspect it actually means they are moving the Voice Isolation processing from the iPhone/iPad/Mac to the AirPods themselves. Which sounds like a terrible idea since the other devices have far more battery power to handle that kind of intense processing.

Or they repackaged an existing feature as a new one because they had nothing better to present as "new" for AirPods this year.

AirPods Pro needs the ability to remove loud vehicle and motorbike noise pollution. For example, could transparency mode pick-out and silence loud motorbikes and vehicles. Imagine standing beside an ignoramus on a loud Harley, you clearly hear what the guy is saying and the motorbike noise is silenced to Honda Gold Wing level.

AirPods Pro 2 need wind noise cancelation. They are unusable in windy conditions. how do you guys deal with it? My Sony MX4 could eliminate it very well.
I’m hoping this Voice Iso relived wind noise. OMG, it’s so bad. 🙉 I also find wind noise in my own ears is louder with them in than out. TMK, my ears aren’t oddly shaped. 🤷🏼😅

I find the existing Voice Isolation (enabled in Control Center) does a great job of this. Windy days on the Boston Longfellow bridge and phone parties cannot hear any of it.

It is. I'm wondering the same thing.

I can make a phone call, pull down Control Center, and turn on Voice Isolation while using AirPods Pro. I fail to see how this is anything different than what I can do today.
Apple is moving the processing onto the AirPods themselves on the H2 chips as opposed to the phone.

Not too soon as well since I use my airpods at work on a windows laptop and am constant being told my microphone barely picks me up and seems to enhance the background noise. Looking forward to seeing this in action.

(I've confirmed this info on apple.com which mentions the new voice isolation being done direct on the H2 chip).

So basically the 1st Gen AirPods pro are forgotten now and will have no more new features?

Was asking the same question, since AirPod pro are terrible for Teams calls on the company windows laptop.

this is great for my use case. I wasn’t picking up an s24 because Samsung won’t introduce voice isolation for Bluetooth headsets. Now i get it via Apple
