Apple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, the experimental browser Apple first introduced four years ago in March 2016. Apple designed the Safari Technology Preview to test features that may be introduced into future release versions of Safari.

Safari Technology Preview release 118 includes bug fixes and performance improvements for Web Inspector, CSS, Scrolling, JavaScript, WebGL, Media, Private Click Measurement, WebRTC, Web API, Accessibility, and Extensions.

The current Safari Technology Preview release is the built on the new Safari 14 update included in macOS Big Sur with support for Safari Web Extensions imported from other browsers, tab previews, password breach notifications, web authentication with Touch ID, and more.

The Safari Technology Preview update is available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences to anyone who has downloaded the browser. It update is available for both macOS Catalina and macOS Big Sur, the newest version of the Mac operating system. Full release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website.

Apple's aim with Safari Technology Preview is to gather feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. Safari Technology Preview can run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while designed for developers, it does not require a developer account to download.

I have the 117 version but this one does not show up in updates. I installed it manually and it updated.

Love the performance of the newest Safari but it's pretty broken regarding extension. Ad blockers just break most sites as well as turning off cookies. Still waiting on that Japanese to English translation feature. Till then, I switched over to M1 Brave browser since it feels faster and the ad blocker actually works on youtube.

I wonder if the performance improvements are for all Macs and not only for the M1.

Scrolling is definitely smoother on Twitter for example. iCloud tabs are still missing. Is it expected?

Hopefully this one stops the crashes. I found Safari on Big Sur has frequent crashes, and the STP improved to one crash every second day or so.

Now the only thing I still need is a support for videos when using Teams through Safari so I could ditch the app.

I hadn't considered this until now, but with Outlook shifting to a "web page in an app wrapper" like Teams, I would be more inclined to switch to an M1 to use iPad version of the apps instead. Would be interesting to test...

is it me or... when i try to type an address on the bar...it doesn't remember anymore the first 1,2 letters from the site ? I need to type at least 4.
On the previous version it was showing the site after typing one letter only...

Big improvement on my M1 on Instacart and another site. Previously, it was slow to move around the page and it'd have the memory usage is high warning before force reloading.

I have never tried this version of Safari. How is it compared to the other version?
Well apart from the new featured not yet available into the version bundle with the OS I found this version more stable especially when running betas

If you have issues with the other version this one usually solves those issues at least for me and since the first beta I have been using Tech preview as the normalversion has been buggy but I just install 11.2 beta 2 and writing this using the normale version and it seems ok now but I have tried this release of the Tech Preview problably going to dich the normal version based on the comment here alone
