Apple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, the experimental browser Apple first introduced in March 2016. Apple designed the Safari Technology Preview to test features that may be introduced into future release versions of Safari.

Safari Technology Preview release 169 includes bug fixes and performance improvements for Web Inspector, CSS, Scroll Snap, JavaScript, Popover, SVG, Accessibility, Media, Rendering, and Web API.

The current Safari Technology Preview release is version 16.4 and is compatible with machines running macOS Ventura and macOS Monterey 12.3 or later.

The Safari Technology Preview update is available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences or System Settings to anyone who has downloaded the browser. Full release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website.

Apple's aim with Safari Technology Preview is to gather feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. Safari Technology Preview can run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while designed for developers, it does not require a developer account to download.

Still sitting on version 166 myself due to all the bugs introduced in 167 and still existing in 168 (I checked). I'm pretty hesitant to try upgrading again at this point.

wanna confirm that again, but after 5-7 years , once a device stops receiving major updates and only has security patches, you get to keep the old safari, right ?

you cannot even use safari tech preview on an old device

unlike literally any other browser whose updates are not related to the OS version

am I right ? that means you have an old engine without the latest improvements, speeds and compatiblity, and security flaws not patched , all that after 5 years ?

better use chrome past those 5 years i guess then

The whole idea of Safari Technology Preview is for users to test it. That means it’s not necessary stable. Why even participate if you’re not willing test and report?

maybe you could list those? I have been having 0 bugs, just upgraded as I always do. Is it certain websites, or certain technologies employed on those web sites. Just saying "all the bugs" tends to make me think there are none, but you like to pretend there are

Still sucks, twitter stuck with vids, crunchyroll doesn`t work at all and youtube at some moments goes black, incredible the 166 was flawless and after that it was a massive downgrade... maybe works in M2 models? (my mac mini is M1)

Safari is jumping on Facebook pages again and many times I have to reload in order to be able to scroll down.
Ventura has been awful

Same issues in M2 model (still have to upgrade my avatar :)

yeah, unfortunately anything after 166 hasn't worked too well for me, most noticeably on loading video and especially on youtube.

It's a shame because I really like that purple icon in my dock 😂

When will they fix the bug where 3rd party Autofill crashes Safari

Will test 0365 MS Teams again. Worked for a long time inside Safari, but has been failing now for a month or so on multiple OSX fully updated computers. Not willing to download the MS Teams App: the suggested fix, prefer contain all Microsoft apps in the Safari browser.

The page jumping on seekingalpha and facebook is also happening using Firefox, it appears to be a OS ventura issue.
Very annoying
