Apple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, the experimental browser Apple first introduced in March of 2016. Apple designed the Safari Technology Preview to test features that may be introduced into future release versions of Safari.

Safari Technology Preview release 19 includes bug fixes and updates for HTML Form Validation, Pointer Lock API, Input Events, URL Parser, Web Inspector, Shadow DOM, Rendering, and more. Preview 19 also adds Touch Bar support in Webkit.

The Safari Technology Preview update is available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store to anyone who has downloaded the browser. Full release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website.

Apple's goal with Safari Technology Preview is to receive feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. Safari Technology Preview can run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while designed for developers, it does not require a developer account to download.

HTML5test score went from 444 to 452. Nice to see that Safari is catching up and now only 8 points behind Edge and 9 points behind Firefox.

YAY! More completely arbitrary points.

Safari gets 0/5 for web payments (normal credit cards) with 0 points available for ApplePay or TouchID authenticated payments. Makes sense.

No points for Web M? Of course not, that's a google thing, it infringes on the MPEG-LA patents, and Apple is part of of the H264 and eventually H265 so why would they bother with webm?

Doesn't support Ogg Theora?????? No browsers do.

No speech recognition? Seems to work fine on my mbp and my iMac, although maybe that's a technicality since it's OS X.

TL:DR - these tests are stupid

Anything going on in the Peer To Peer section? Curious if WebRTC is coming along at all (I'm still on 10.11 so I can't try it)

It's crashing for me if I type 'acqua' into the address bar. It might be crashing at 'acqu' but I can't tell for sure. Is this happening for anyone else?

Not me on macOS 10.12.1. Maybe because of some bookmark/recently-visited item you have?

Can anyone tell from the webkit site if there is an API to change the TouchBar? Can you HelloWorld it from the javascript console in preview 19? I can hardly make heads or tails of the webkit site.
