Apple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, the experimental browser that was first introduced in March 2016. Apple designed Safari Technology Preview to allow users to test features that are planned for future release versions of the Safari browser.

Safari Technology Preview 222 includes fixes and updates for Accessibility, CSS, Media, Rendering, Scrolling, and Web API.

The current Safari Technology Preview release is compatible with machines running macOS Sequoia and macOS Tahoe, the newest version of macOS that's set to launch this later this year.

The Safari Technology Preview update is available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences or System Settings to anyone who has downloaded the browser from Apple’s website. Complete release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website.

Apple’s aim with Safari Technology Preview is to gather feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. Safari Technology Preview can run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while it is designed for developers, it does not require a developer account to download and use.

Unfortunately, I still can't clear the history on the version without it hanging. Maybe in the next beta update this will function correctly
I just installed the latest version and was able to clear History without an issue. When I read your post I tried with the previous version first and history was deleted without issue.

It's very easy to assume that because something happens on one's system it must be happening on everyone else's system as well. As part of the beta agreement we are required to report any problems or issues. Have you done so yet?

I wonder if it's possible to respawn the next iteration as Safari 26. That way the numbering scheme is in line with the upcoming OS.

Maybe slightly difficult with online documentation for previous generations at some point but actually no, I don’t think that’s a reason at all.
They would however have to be named 26.xx because these previews are released more frequently, and maybe that could make things confusing? Who knows.

I'd just love it if I didn't get messages saying "this 'something something' isn't compatible with Safari. Please try another browser". Usually it's something Google based pushing you onto Chrome but it's happened with some other things I've noted in the past.

Forgive my ignorance, but are higher numbers better or worse in those (I presume) benchmarks?

perhaps the version of safari that ships with macOS 26 will be safari 26, (it currently follows iOS version number)

I don't see the sense fin STP sharing that number

edit: it reports itself to the web as Safari 26.0

Does it fix the tab issues where you can’t really tell which tab is active anymore and an option to disable the transparent chrome bar? It’s been almost unuseable. Normally would go back to Chrome during times like this but Chrome doesn’t have full adblocking support anymore so would provably be worse. Orion seemed like a good option but so many sites crash it make it not useable either.

I have reported it, and clearing history was the first thing I tried to do since this was my only major pain point after the latest update push. I never assumed it was happening in a widespread manner. I was simply expressing that I was am still struggling with this issue.

not exactly sure what you are talking about, but here's how tabs look over here.
