Apple today seeded the second beta of tvOS 16 to its public beta testing group, allowing members of the public to download and test the new update on Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K models. The second beta comes a little over two weeks after the first public beta and it corresponds with the fourth developer beta.

Public beta testers can download the tvOS 16 beta update by opening up the Settings app on the Apple TV, navigating to the Software Updates section under "System," and then toggling on "Get public Beta Updates" after signing up to beta test on Apple's public beta website.

tvOS 16 adds cross-device connectivity, which will let developers integrate Apple TV apps with iPhone and iPad apps to unlock new experiences on the Apple TV. Multiple user profiles have also been improved through a shared keychain feature that cuts down on logins.

Game controller support has been expanded to the Nintendo Joy-Cons and Nintendo Pro Controller. In the future, the Apple TV will support Matter, an upcoming smart home standard that will improve interoperability between accessories from different companies.

tvOS 16 is set to come out this fall, and it will go through several rounds of beta testing before launch.

hm, my Apple TV 4K (2018) just died, only watched tv and played a few games on it, not impressed. And will not buy again, not as essential as MacBook, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

Agreed. Once a product dies, I'll never, ever purchase it again and have it die again.

hm, my Apple TV 4th Gen (2015) has been going strong pretty much since 2015. I have 1 and 2 4.5 Gens and at least one is on streaming during the day. To keep the dogs company. I’ve played a few games but I’m not much of a gamer and wasn’t thrilled with the experience.

I don’t need a 4k since 2/3 TVs are 720p. Maybe some day in the future.

Not sure if its beta related but I've noticed that the Apple Music app is much quieter than before and songs lack presence and punch through my Dolby Atmos home theatre setup. Hopefully its a temporary glitch as usually it sounds fantastic, loud, present, punchy, and room filling. Right now it sounds flat and muted.

I get joy cons to show and “work” but the whole beta seems unstable, I get a flash blank screen, off for a a couple of seconds then back on again, whatever i’m watching. also now any controller ps4 or joycons lose connection after a minute or 2. Conrtoller inputs, don’t really work anymore and the whole playing a game with controller now is completely broken for me.
