Apple today released tvOS 11.1, the first major update for the tvOS 11 operating system designed for fourth and fifth-generation Apple TV models. tvOS 11.1 comes more than a month after the release of the original tvOS 11 update.

tvOS 11.1 can be downloaded over the air through the Settings app on the Apple TV by going to System --> Software Update. Apple TV owners who have automatic software updates turned on will be upgraded to tvOS 11.1 automatically.

tvOS 11.1 focuses primarily on bug fixes and performance improvements rather than outward-facing design changes, and no significant features were discovered over the course of the beta testing period.

The update does introduce a fix for a major vulnerability in the WPA2 Wi-Fi standard that protects many modern Wi-Fi networks. Many Apple devices had the potential to be impacted by the vulnerability, but it has been addressed in tvOS 11.1, iOS 11.1, watchOS 4.1, and macOS High Sierra 10.13.1.

tvOS 11 introduced features like full support for AirPods, automatic switching between light and dark mode based on local time, Home screen syncing options designed to keep multiple Apple TVs in a single household in sync, and new background modes and notification support.

I hate the new way the Apple TV organizes TV Shows. I like watching them in chronological order, not alphabetical!! I'll update as soon as I get home, and hopefully they brought that view back!

Does it bring back Watched/Unwatched or do I still have to scroll through ALL of my content to choose whatever home videos and such that are on my Mac? Apple ruined the Apple TV with their last update. I hate using it now.

Not yet. It's coming back in 11.2 which just came out as beta.

Yes that would have made a lot of sense.

It's not an Apple function Amazon has to release it. Ask them why they haven't yet.[/QUOTE]

Yes, but Apple is the one who promised it would be out by the end of the year as a featured selling point during their introductory address. Amazon may be falling down on the job, but Apple will have to answer for unfulfilled promises to customers. They still have 61 days, so who knows, this may all be moot in a few short days or weeks, even at the loss of some goodwill.

Right, because watching cat videos in 4K HDR 10 @ 60Hz needs to be Apple's highest priority. . .

but the cat hair is so sharp and the image depth is like glassless 3D. Don't even get me started on the HDR pop around the cat's eyes!
[doublepost=1509490176][/doublepost]Still no resolution/frame switching. Apple hasn't even acknowledge that this "feature" is a PROBLEM.

That's in the 11.2 beta :(

It's my biggest issue right now too.

So is live sports ever coming to the tv app or was that another mythical feature like iCloud messages and Apple Pay debit cards?

I'm fully aware that it's up to Amazon to release the App for Prime Video, but I'm still mocking the fact that WHERE IS IT ??? At this point, I should have broken down and ordered a Prime Stick...

Pretty sure that Apple wouldn't have announced anything if they didn't have the say so from Amazon themselves that it was coming.

This is down to Amazon pure and simple.

And yet the stuttering while swiping through my apps on the home screen still persists...

Does anyone else feel like AppleTV is still running beta software? Clicks are ignored, scrolling is nowhere near smooth, remote is spotty...

Everything feels like a disappointment....

And I'm pretty sure Apple opulent have said anything unless they had something in writing from Amazon.

While I agree it boils down to Amazon missing a delivery window, but it's Apple that's on the hook with their customers. I, and many other, bought the ATV 4K in September because they said the app was coming "later this year". If they don't deliver at all, that's $200 that could have been sitting in my portfolio earning interest, or a lesser amount spent on another box that did have an Amazon app, instead of boosting Apple's 4th and 1st quarter earnings report, without getting what I paid for. But without further announcements and updates from Apple, regardless of whose fault it is, the ATV 4K goes back if there's no Amazon app by January, and *maybe* I'll be back when they get it all sorted out.

I haven't had any of these problems.
